LB_NJ Posted September 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2023 Will be in Cartegena for an overnight. Is it worth converting dollars to pesos? I am wondering if I should just spend dollars and not go through the effort, I am willing to just pay more in US dollars.
StanleyandGus Posted September 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2023 I had the same question- our tour guide, Dora the Explorer said it’s not necessary; apparently American dollars are fine. Mind you, I am not staying overnight, so if you’re going further afield, that might not apply.
Rare AtSeaAlways Posted October 31, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2023 The general advice in most ports lately- find an ATM and get bits of local currency. On a recent Transatlantic, several ship passengers could not enter a pretty park as they did not have any Euros.

Just wondering if for several hours it would make a difference in Cartegena.
Rare VintageCheap Posted December 3, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 3, 2023 The small street vendors, taxis and the port take dollars. Nicer shops and dining and attractions may not. Fort admissions Pesos cash or credit.

Curtzilla Posted June 6 #7 Share Posted June 6 (edited) The Colombian Peso is a floating currency (not pegged), it's today about 3,930 pesos per dollar. I would use USD wherever possible, and if pesos are required, try to use a credit card. Also, "Mil" in Spanish means thousand, not million. A "5 Mil" note is 5,000 pesos.
