martyap Posted October 7, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2023 This is for next May and we are in port from 8:30 to 8:30, a Wednesday. We have been to Florence and we have been to Cinque Terre. Is it crazy to consider a private excursion to Florence from La Spezia or is it just too long of a trip. It would be w/o a stop in Pisa. Thanks

Thanks Given that you have 12 hours and would be using a private excursion I don’t think it’s crazy…

Thanks Other options off the cuff; it's an easy train ride day-trip from La Spezia to Pisa if you haven't been there before. Or Porto Venere is about a half hour ferry ride and is a great alternative to the Cinque Terre!

You could also consider taking the short train journey from la Spezia to Santa Margherita (Ligure) which is an attractive seaside resort, and from there you can take a walk, or bus, or taxi, or the short but beautifully scenic ferry ride to Portofino which isn't CT but well photographed regardless. There are many past threads with info and tips on this option, and others including PortoVenere. As usual, access them using the empty search box under your user name then hitting the little spy glass. You could also search for Portofino and Santa Margherita in turn. And only search on the general Italy ports Forum, not an individual thread. This is an example of one result you might want to read, just ignore the reference to driving as it quickly morphs into suggestions without driving.. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2911139-la-spezia-anything-to-do-within-a-short-drive/#comment-64723978 Edited October 8, 2023 by edinburgher
jsn55 Posted October 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2023 Would depend on the time it takes to get there and back, and whether it's a scenic drive or just a grind.
