Amex new offer

The last offer I received and used was last December, $350 credit when you spend $1000

I've never gotten any of the past ones, either. I wonder if for some reason I'm just not their preferred demographic for it even though I pay for NCL cruises using my Amex card...

I did a little googling and saw that if you accept offers, then refresh and/or log out/in, your offers fully refresh to bring you back up to 100, but that only works for so long before they stop showing you new offers. I did this but unfortunately did not trigger the NCL one to show up. Maybe later.

Try making a small payment using your Amex card, you might get targeted. I recently did final payment 2 weeks ago, and received offer yesterday.

I used the card just before the Alaska trip.  I charged $1000 to it then.  My husband also has a card and got last month’s offer.  We used his card to pay the deposit, so we got the $200 on his card for that.  I guess we shouldn’t be greedy.  We’ve gotten $400 benefit in less than a month between us.  😂

The offer has nothing to do with the charges. It only has to do with the type of AMEX you carry. The promo is offered by NCL to everyone on certain cards when they sign the agreement with AMEX to run it. Odd they'd undercut their own credit card by doing so but they did this last year around this time to shore up their winter bookings.

I just upgraded to FASUP and bought soda packages for the kids on Wednesday using Amex, no offer for me. It's like they know I'm going to use it, so they don't want to give me free money...

Once you add the offer to your card, you will see a tab with all offers, added offers. Keep checking regularly.

Forgot to mention that I did a final payment at beginning of November, and purchased 3 NCL excursions 4 days ago using Amex.

After years of reading about US cards being given this offer, hubby and I finally received one in June on our (Canadian) Aeroplan (Air Canada reward program) branded card. We were more than happy to take advantage.

We don't have an offer for NCL currently but last week we were given an offer from Oceana so hope we will see another NCL offer in the future.

I saw the Oceania one too, but never have received a NCL offer on my (Canadian) Amex. They never include us... 😢

So, I’ve already paid for excursions, Vibe, and made final payment on my Dec cruise. I can use my Amex for prepaid service charges but will need to spend $400 more to get to $1000. Does anyone know if I can buy OBC and if I don’t use all of it get it refunded somewhere other than back to my Amex card? Thanks!

Sorry, I'm not sure about the OBC, but maybe buy thermal spa passes? Upgrade to Free at Sea Plus?

Nah, don’t really want thermal spa since I have Vibe and no desire to upgrade anything else - happy with the FAS offers. Good ideas though! 😃

First you have to add offer to your card, spend $1000 direct with NCL and get $200 credit. If you cancel, they will return amount spend but they will take back the credit.

Yes!  I did that last month for my Alaska trip.  The Amex offer came in literally five days before we got onboard.  We had paid for everything, including gratuities, for that one and for our December trip.  I ended up buying $1000 of OBC for the Alaska cruise.  You have to wait until the last day, but they give it back to you in cash.  I cashed out just about $900.  Nearly wiped them out.😂

So, yes, it works to buy OBC.  They will not re-credit back to the card.  In fact they will not let you off the ship until they’ve paid you back.  As we were waiting to disembark they called several names telling them to go to the OBC desk before disembarking.

Thanks! That’s what I’m going to do as well then. 😃

Don’t wait until disembarkation morning.  I went first thing on the last full day of the cruise.  I was first in line.  I think they open at nine.

One more note.  It was a bit of a juggle.  I knew I wanted to buy four CruiseNexts,  but I didn’t want to use the OBC for it.  The account on file was my NCL MC.  I wanted to use that for the CNs to get the three points.  So I grabbed a Starbucks, cashed out the OBC and then went to the CN desk to buy my CNs.  It’s all kind of a game to me,  😂

Sending you good vibes that you get an offer next time NCL extends it to Cdn cards!! I was floored when I saw it pop up on ours. Just assumed we would always be excluded from these offers as I had been reading about folks in US getting them for at least a decade!

Kinda like how they constantly bombard me to apply for their branded credit card but then have a small asterisk that says "For US residents only" 😆

yesterday added ncl but didnt see oceanea.

today,i saw it:

Get 5 additional Membership  Rewards® pts for each dollar spent, up to 50k pts.

so basically 5% back, assuming you know how to maximize the benefit of amex pts, which i dont. 😞

also, not as good at ncl's 20% back

Yup.  I bought two $500 certificates.  Worked like a charm.  Just wish I could have cashed it out earlier.  I thought about taking an advance at the casino, but didn’t want to pay the 3% fee, so I waited.  Luckily I did pretty decent in the casino on that trip and didn’t need the cash.  😃

Sounds like you were NOT ALLOWED to cash them out earlier?  Is the earliest the morning of the last full day before disembarkation?

Thanks for posting your experience!

Correct.  You can cash it out the morning of the last full day - not before.  I was there when they opened at 9:00.  Then I went next door to the CruiseNext desk and bought my four CNs.  I didn’t want to buy them earlier because I wanted to get the 3x points for charging them to the NCL credit card.  I didn’t want to use the purchased OBC to pay for them.

It's a shame you can't use the offer on shore excursions.

You can, as long as you spend $1000 direct with NCL using your Amex card, you will get the $200 credit.
