Pearl Island Snorkel Question

We are considering an excursion to Pearl Island.  RCL offers one with and without snorkeling.   Is snorkeling just done from the shore?  We have our own equipment. Are we able to just swim out and snorkel on our own?  Is there a part of the island that has better snorkeling than other parts?  Thanks in advance!!!

I had researched this prior.  I don't believe you can go in the snorkeling section on your own which is pretty good.  I think you stay as a group with a boat.  We did an excursion there separate from Pearl Island that stopped there for snorkeling.  Other areas I'm not sure of.  I know they insist on the life jackets on your wrist or snorkeling vests.

I am interested in this too-we would like to snorkel from the beach-is it an option?

I have read recent reviews and it sounds like it is only a 30 minute booked time slot that is actually only 20 once you get equipment and such. They rotate everyone on the island through all day so no chance to stay longer. If snorkeling is the appeal I would go elsewhere
