liberty176 Posted December 7, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2023 Does HAL ever offer tours on embarkation day? We are sailing in July on the Nieuw Statendam, and we leave Reykjavik on Day 1 at 7pm. We're staying in a hotel the previous night. Excursions are available for nearly the entire sailing, nothing for embarkation day, though. Normally we like to come to the ship early, but with a 7pm departure it seems like there would be plenty of time for an excursion. We want to drive some distance, so I thought a combo tour/transfer could make sense. Thanks
CruiserBruce Posted December 7, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2023 The only time I am aware they do is when you are using HAL transfers with an early airport pickup, like 9am. They don't want you at the ship that early, so we got a 3 hour orientation tour. This was in Copenhagen.
Torquer Posted December 7, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2023 I have never heard of one after you board ship. HAL offers them in some ports as part of a transfer. Of course, you can always use a private tour company, before you board, or perhaps even after in the early afternoon.
Heartgrove Posted December 8, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2023 With a 7pm departure, the muster drill will need to be earlier. If possible arrive a day or two earlier than planned and arrange tours for yourself. Besides the Golden Circle tour, a tour to the Snaefelsness Peninsula ot South Coast are doable from Reyjkavik. A 7pm departure is really not much different than the customary 4-5pm departure to squeeze an excursion in. One time we had a 10pm departure from Copenhagen but the muster drill was held at around 5pm. That day we had gone to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebaek, Denmark on the last day of our "Copenhagen Card." On the way back, our train broke down. We didn't board until close to 6pm. Upon boarding we were given a letter saying that a special makeup muster would be held the next day at 9am.
ChinaShrek Posted December 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 8, 2023 Mandatory attendance at a certain time is a thing of the past. The muster drill is simply having your card scanned before the ship will sail.
