Ship vs. Port Time: What's the Difference? (Heading to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico)

“Correct local time”  will not mean much if it differs from ship’s time and your ship sails without you.

Of course, my advice assumes one is on a ship that uses local time. FWIW, I’ve never been on a cruise ship that didn’t use local time. Must be a mass market thing for Caribbean cruises (?).

Since we cruise many different lines (all over the world) we have learned that each line handles the time issue in their own way.  The burden is on the cruiser to always know the ship time or they may find themselves missing the ship (in a port) or perhaps missing a meal (OMG).  Folks should be in the habit of checking the ship time on a daily basis (especially when in port) and making sure to know when they must be back aboard.  On our recent Sky Princess cruise, we had one guy return an hour late because he forgot that we had changed the ship's time (the previous night).  Fortunately, for him, the captain was able to wait (about 30 minutes past the scheduled departure time).
