Money & Jewelry Taken From Safes On Century

Personally, I'm always suspicious of people with 0 posts who tell negative stories on this web site.

Kewlguy, I certainly didn't wish to offend you with with my post. If you had read all of the messages you would have found out that while I haven't posted before (Really no reason to) I have utilized this board many times in the past for excellent info regarding X cruises.

My post was for two reasons--a plea for ideas on what to do about the situation because X hasn't offered any help, and to warn others of the vulnerability of the safes in the cabins.

As a result of the post I have received excellent suggestions from readers and, apparently, several others have gained insight from my misfortune.

30 year customers and you are only select members? That seems odd. I would have thought you would at least be at the elite level after three decades of sailing with RCCL/X. Also the cabin you mentioned being in is on deck 9. Century has no deck 12.

Kewlgy, I just saw this post or I would have included it in my last reply. We were in Cabin 1202--deck 12, Sports Deck on Century. There are 20 Sky Suites on that deck and about a half dozen inside cabins. The other Suite burglarized was Sky Suite 1203--also deck 12, Sports deck. I am not making this stuff up. We first sailed 30 years ago on Song of Norway, then Nordic Prince and then Sun Viking then once every other year until the last 2 years with 3 cruises in. I've never questioned our level--we have always been treated great, whatever level it is, until now.

I can assure you I read every one of your posts numerous times. I have also found at least 10 different inconsistencies with your original story. If others choose to believe your story that is their decision. I personally think you made the entire story up.

kewlguy, I'm sure everyone has their opinion regarding this. I have absolutely no reason to fabricate such a story. It happened to us; I hope it never happens to you.

These are the guidelines we're supposed to follow when posting to these message boards. I don't enjoy seeing posts of this nature. Bassque had a legitimate concern and its been informational. If you believe he's a liar, that's your right, but it appears you're posting outside of the guidelines.

"Cruise Critic is committed to providing an online environment that is free from these types of harassing postings. Please, don't attack another poster or group of posters. Do not harass, threaten, embarrass, or do anything else to another member that is unwanted. This means: don't say bad things about them, don't keep sending them unwanted Instant Message notes, don't attack their race, heritage, or their sexual orientation, etc. If you disagree with someone, respond to the subject, not the person. Postings of this nature will be removed from the boards."

The best way to handle it, if you think someone is outside the guidelines, imo, is to just click the little triangle in the upper right corner of the post. State your concerns, without a lot of personal opinion (just the facts) and wait. You may not see the post removed, the entire thread may poof, or nothing may happen at all.

I usually don't, unless the post is really offensive, post that I turned anyone in (I don't do it a lot). It usually just causes more controversy.

These are just suggestions from another poster and are not meant to be official in any way. Most of the stuff on the boards is never meant to be malicious in any way. Facial expressions are hard to read, but if you believe the post is out of line, then it should be reported.

Some of the mods are VERY busy here. It's got to be a thankless job!

if you don't catch them in the act, you can't prove it. that's a statement from a bonding company! (That I got when a cleaning co. ripped me off.) So It must work the same. Sorry for your loss.!! I have never had any trouble with a safe on board, but won't rely on them any more.

You use to be able to make draws in the casino without any additional fee, now I thought someone had said that Celebrity charges an additional 3% for that type of draw... anyone know the current policy with Celebrity as we are leaving in May on a cruise with them.

Off Summit two weeks ago. No fee for casino draw.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I think the cruise ship in question needs to investigate if someone other than security may have gotten hold of the master code for the safes on the ship.

It really is unfortunate, but I do not think it is common. I am a lot more careful now, but I left the safe open once with hundreds of dollars and other valuables in it and did not have a problem. Similarly we have never had a problem with cameras, jewlery, etc that were in the room on any ship we've been on.

As an update to our situation, Celebrity's Risk Management Office called us today (5/1) and appologized for the situation, appologized for the way we were treated on the ship and offered us a $500 credit on any cruise with them within the next year. The amount of the credit matched the deductable we had on our insurance claim. Evidently, we did matter after all. Hats off to whomever in X's main office for this show of concern. ThanX!
