Carol is fully recovered. According to her searching the Mayo Clinic website I have Long Covid so am still not feeling well. Life goes on.

Thanks for your good wishes!

Hope you're feeling better, Norris. It took me awhile to get over my first bout of Covid. The other 2 weren't nearly as long. The joys of (previously) working in schools.

If you haven't seen it yet, ParoDeeJay has a whole playlist on their AMA river cruise. It wasn't the Danube but gives you a good idea of what to expect. I watched their summary and agree with much of what they say about river cruises: limited entertainment, excellent food, and intense itineraries.

I'm so happy to see this update! Enjoy Germany and I can't wait to see your upcoming reviews. It sounds like you have a lot of amazing trips to look forward to!  We have been looking at HAL but haven't taken the plunge yet. Do you also write reviews about your opera trips?

Nee Nee and Biddy, hopefully my HAL Rotterdam review (next January 1) will be very positive and we'll add HAL to our lines of choice. If it's a poor experience I'll have 2 more HAL cruises to cancel. I'm not anticipating canceling from what I have seen already.

Our current lines of choice are Princess, Celebrity and Azamara but we're less than enthused about each one than we were. We've had two Princess cruises with disappointing food and October's Enchanted Princess cruise will need to redress that trend and restore our faith. Celebrity has the ship within a ship Retreat suite cash-grab going on and Azamara is under new management and has had a rocky year of back of house woes.

I don't write about our opera trips nor about our wonderful fun times in Germany. Those trips have taken priority over cruising.

Hi Norris, Carol, and cats!

I knew you had Germany planned for this summer but I wasn’t sure what else you had planned. I have now taken a screenshot of your screenshot so I’ll know when and where to find you. Hope you have a great time in Germany as you always seem to do. I’ll be looking for you in early November on Enchanted. 😀

Just wanted to comment to say that I read through all of this with great interest and so enjoyed the detailed posts, commentary & wonderful photos (and I hope long Covid is now long behind you and you are feeling better!).

We will do doing our first Panama Canal cruise (Florida to Los Angeles) next March and the information here has been truly helpful and has me excited for the cruise!  Wanted to do the old locks so on a smaller ship (Coral Princess).

if anyone cares to comment, I am wondering what a good way to handle where to be during  the long transit through the locks would be.   Hang out mostly at the front of the ship? Hang out mostly at the back?  I.e., is more interesting to see where you are going or see where you’ve been? Find a deck location that one can “see through”  railing area so you could sit on the deck or use a chair ?  Are any areas more preferred and tend to get crowded so showing up early to “stake a claim” is needed?  Best time to leave a viewing position to grab lunch?   Just want to be prepared for canal transit day to maximize the experience!

Thanks, in advance, for any advice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the read and thanks for saying so!

On Coral I would be the first person to take my place just under the bridge. Looking forward is key as it builds the anticipation which starts from miles away...

You can always move aft on the return trip after Gatun Lake. You'll lose your place when you go to eat. The buffet will be packed for breakfast and those diners will stay at the tables to watch the passage. Lunch was served during the Ruby's stay in the lake and an MDR was opened. 1300 pax went on excursions once we anchored in Gatun Lake- good time to eat!

Hope this helps.

Norris
