Fake Taxi Ripoff Rome airport

Take only white taxi at airport for Rome. Was led to area with many black Mercedes and a white Audi. Did not know difference. Got in silver Audi that would not go over 35 mph without shaking violently. Scared to death the whole ride. Was charged more than twice  what taxi would have charged. If you are led to silver Audi, grab your bags and insist on white taxi. If you don't you will be ripped off and possibly taken on an unsafe ride.

Always, always, always, in every airport, only use the official taxi stand.  This is not specific to Rome, or Italy, or anywhere.  Never follow anyone you haven't prearranged with to a car.

Yes I should have known better. After long flight from California and being very tired we were caught off guard. We actually followed signs to taxi area, but we were intercepted along the way by a man who grabbed our bags and said he would take us to a taxi. Other than this blip in our trip, Rome was great. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Another rule is do not let a man grab your bags!  Not only may you not find a taxi, but you may find those bags disappear.
