Upgrade to unlimited wifi questions

I want to upgrade my 150 minutes to unlimited Wi-Fi for $110. I understand I can do this once on the ship as I do want to use my onboard credit.  I am platinum and get a 15% discount on Wi-Fi according to the chart.  Does anyone know if that discount also is good if upgrading the Wi-Fi?
Also I remember reading not to use any of your minutes before you do the wifi upgrade or they won’t let you do it or something is that correct? I also read upgrading the wifi gets cheaper if you wait a few days. Not sure if that is right?

I didn't use my minutes until day 2 - not confident in the answers and I have no problem waiting a few hours to upgrade LOL.
