ted burke Posted February 17 #1 Share Posted February 17 Ending an 8 day Viking cruise in Athens end of next year. Would like to use the time before the flight to see some of Athens. I guess Viking won't want them stored aboard as they are turning the ship around. Does Viking have a port office that would keep them? Other ideas? Or will the airline accept bags 6 hours before departure- then we could go back to the city for a few hours and return to the airport. Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 17 #2 Share Posted February 17 The ship will put your luggage out, probably by a couple of hours after disembarkation starts, at latest. And most airlines won't accept your bags until ~3 hours before your flight. Additionally, Piraeus is about 20-25 minutes from Athens' historic center, and you'd have to backtrack to get them before heading to the airport -- doesn't make sense to leave them in Piraeus. I wouldn't want to arrive at the airport much later than 3 hours before an international flight. Within that window, what would make sense (but would be $$) would be to arrange with a private driver in advance to give you a short tour of Athens (with a couple of stops) before dropping you at the airport. They can keep your bags while you get a bit of time in the city. I guess hindsight is 20/20, but why didn't you plan to spend time in Athens, even if only a night, before heading home? marazul Posted February 21 #3 Share Posted February 21 (edited) @ted burke Arrange for a private transport to the airport including a two-hour tour of Athens. Then you will not have to worry about storing them or waste time retrieving them.
