Liao Posted March 1 #1 Share Posted March 1 Currently booked on Apex TA, Mar. 2025, Sunset Sky Suite. I'm looking at the Eclipse TA, Mar. 2025, Royal Suite, and I've got a courtesy hold on it as it's the last RS available. The cost to upgrade from the Apex SSS and Eclipse RS is only +$1266! I know Apex is new(er) and Eclipse has not been refurbed, but I really love sailing in the upper suites for a longer cruise when possible. I've been on the Edge so I know what to expect on Apex and I've been on the refurbed Summit, which I enjoyed very very much. I guess I'm looking for opinions on any recent cruises on Eclipse, good condition, nice specialty dining, overall food, entertainment etc. I have no qualms about the service, Celebrity service has never disappointed me. Rare CruisinShips Posted March 1 #2 Share Posted March 1 We were on it in October, in a CS. The condition of the ship was fine..yes a little dated and maybe a little tired in some areas, but overall a beautiful, clean ship. Food was good and we enjoyed Luminae. Our butler service was very good as well. My only issue from a suite perspective was with the Retreat amenities aspect...no sundeck and Michael's Club was tired and pretty unexciting compared to the brightness and vibrancy of the Retreat Lounge we have experienced aboard the Apex. If those things don't matter to you...by all means, you'll be fine IMO.
Woody14 Posted March 1 #3 Share Posted March 1 I was on in November and thought the ship was in very good shape. The crew were amazing. Sure it does not necessarily have all the latest and greatest updates that some have but it is a great ship and I would sail on her again.
bigbenboys Posted March 1 #4 Share Posted March 1 We were on the Eclipse last Sept in a CS. Ship was in good shape. We dined in Luminae, Murano and the MDR. What I like about non E Class ships is that you can order from the MDR in Luminae. I just booked an RS for Alaska on Solstice over the Edge out of my Seattle.
doghog Posted March 1 #5 Share Posted March 1 The Eclipse was in great shape in October 2023 along with a great crew. No complaints.
Beachlover1989 Posted March 1 #6 Share Posted March 1 I would agree that Apex is probably better for the Caribbean and warm climates, so that you can really take advantage of the Retreat Deck. However, we were on Apex for a cooler cruise (British Isles and Iceland), and the Retreat Lounge was awful, because that's where everyone was, and not on the Retreat Deck. It was almost always overcrowded and was often difficult to find a place to sit, let alone a comfortable place, as Jim explained. And the overcrowding was worsened by the increased number of suites on the E class ships. We're going back to S class suites now unless it's the Caribbean.
BecT Posted March 1 #7 Share Posted March 1 We debark the Eclipse tomorrow. Overall as others have said the ship is in decent shape just outdated and a little tired in areas. Everything is kept clean all around the ship including our suite. Our PH suite showed it's age. The floor was surprisingly all scratched up. There are no USB ports. There is one US style outlet in the bedroom, one in the bar area and one by the piano. I assume the RS will be similar with the exception of the piano outlet. The furniture inside and outside are worn and could use replacing. The curtains in our bedroom are showing signs of being threadbare with light coming through in places. With all that said in no way did it stop us from enjoying ourselves. Service is naturally terrific for upper suites. We are not fans of the new Luminae menu (YMMV) so ate mostly elsewhere to include Tuscan, Buffet, and Room Service which we're all good to excellent. . I guess because we did an Antarctica cruise some basic foods were limited or not available about midway through the cruise. Items such as lettuce and fruit such as berries and bananas were scarce or non existent. If you like visiting the casino be prepared to be underwhelmed. It wasn't very busy and machines were the tightest I've seen in a long time on any ship. There was no casino host so not many real events being sponsored. But staff in the casino were great. Martini bar was fantastic and a great place to visit. Live music was definitely hit or miss about the ship. I heard several complaints about it not being very good. Hot Glass Show is great. You can sign up for a class to make your own glass creation. We made a couple of penguins but the have several options to choose from. Sky lounge was a fun place to visit especially around 10pm when they had different things happening. Main theatre entertainment was generally good. Michaels Club was ok. There were several events scheduled throughout the cruise mostly lectures from onboard guest speakers. The Concierges were very attentive and knowledgeable which was appreciated. Hope this helps!
