First day on the Joy!

Do they still try and steer you into the buffet on embarkment day when you first board? I usually head straight to the Main dining Room. What does everyone else usually do?

I don't know (for sure) on NCL...but that's what they try to do on Princess.  I think it's somewhat of a universal thing...trying to alleviate any possible crowding in MDR.

They did try on the Prima last May but we went to the MDR anyway...much more relaxing for a first day on the ship.

Us, they try to herd you to the buffet.  I don’t know why.  At least one of the MDRs and O’Sheehans is open.  We usually head to the MDR for a relaxed lunch on embarkation day.

We always head to The Local/O'Sheehans as our first meal on board.

They recommended the buffet but we headed to the MDR and were seated immediately.

Just ignore them and head to the MDR or the Local. No big deal, but go to your muster station first.

Yes they do. Just ignore them and head to deck 6 aft to the smaller main dining rooms. Both are open. Deck 7 aft larger main dining room is not open.

We check in with the muster station and then check our carry on bags. There is usually one lounge area where you can drop off carry on bags, staffed with claim tickets. Then off to lunch at a MDR. We pack swim trunks in our backpacks and head to the hot tubs before they get packed.
