My and my daughter will cruise to Hawaii from San Francisco in September with Carnival. We don't have any excursions booked yet either in Kauai nor in Kona. Are those such a ports that we can just walk around and do some shopping please? Any suggestions about places we should see are welcome.

Kona you get off the tender right in town, easy to walk around. Kauai docking is not in town.

On Kauai there is a very small shopping center, Anchor Cove, that you can walk to and they send a shuttle to the port. Hilo Hatties, a Hawaiian clothing and souvenir company also sends a shuttle to the port.

 

But Lihue is not really a town with a main shopping district. There is a small mall called the Kukui Grove Center, a little over two miles away.

 

Kona is an walking town for shops and restaurants.

There is a beach that is a short walk from the ship in Kauai.  You could also take the shuttle to Anchor Cove and walk over to it.
