Live from the Jewel April 29-May 13, 2024: will definitely contain sarcasm and grumpiness

We’re following your lead, of course.

Let’s see…

Hubbard Glacier excursion/boat thingy.

Gondola at Icy Strait.

Streetcar in Skagway.

Jayleen’s whale watching in Juneau.

Sea crab in Ketchikan.

FAS+ locked in, Thermal Spa passes secured, and looking forward to making friends with our butler and concierge.

Dinners booked are Teppenyaki, Cagney’s, La Cucina and Le Bistro.

The rest we will play by ear.  Your advice that I’ve gleaned from your reports is invaluable, thank you so much!  (Especially since my husband is also a vegetarian, so that aspect has helped immeasurably in my planning too)

You have set yourself up perfectly! All you need now is to book a hot stone massage with Andalie!

bwahahaha, YES!  I read that post (and saved her name in my trip notes) to my husband (who loves deep tissue) and he completely agrees.

Security disembarked 3 passengers today in Ketchikan. They were escorted off the ship with their suitcases. There was an investigation and something about a theft.

There was also a medical disembarkation via ambulance.

I should have asked this 13 days ago:

Does anyone know how to prevent the Nespresso machine from making the cups overflow?

Asking for a (ahem) friend.

I stopped using it after the third epic overflow situation.

Heads up:

If you like the Macallan whiskey drink it now. In two weeks NCL is replacing Macallan with Johnnie Walker and the whiskey tasting will be a Johnnie Walker experience.

Have I told you about the time I did the Macallan tasting and a mother and son showed up? It was the son’s birthday. As soon as we started the son liked his drink so much the mom said she would buy him a bottle.

She nearly fainted when the bartender told her the price in the gift shop. That was on the Bliss.

Oh no...my sons were looking forward to the Macallan tasting. We board the Encore in August so they will definitely miss out. Maybe I should wait to buy the upgraded drink package and see what else changes.

OH WOW!!!  Security having to disembark passengers is rare.  Lots of stupid people out there.

I loved, loved, loved the photo of you holding a crab with your pinkie up!  Just like a fancy cup of tea!  LOL

I laughed when I saw that too! I didn’t know I had done that and when I saw the photo I thought, “oh, fancy crab!

There are going to be changes in two weeks. No more Grey Goose either. Also no more Budweiser (just Bud Light.)

I wonder if they’re replacing the Goose with another brand?

(not a big deal for me as I actually prefer the Chopin in a martini with a few olives, but I do like a Goose & Club Soda)

The clocks went forward last night which signals our return to reality. We are on Vancouver time now.

I was super sick last night just coughing coughing coughing. I must have fallen into a deep sleep early in the morning because my dad banged on my door to wake me up this morning.

I sent him back to his room to shower. Dad has an aversion to showering so this is an issue. He scowled at me and said something nasty because he was already dressed. I told him we are not doing one more day without a shower.

When I was finally up and dressed I noticed dad had kept himself occupied this morning while I slept and had found a lot of typos in the Freestyle Daily and had also answered the rhetorical question.

This made me laugh and smile! He told me he didn’t want to forget that he had already put his watch forward and do it again.

We missed Moderno breakfast and we missed Garden Cafe breakfast. This is at 10:00am on a sea day when the clocks went forward. It is also Mother’s Day.

We stood in line for about 20 minutes before we reached the start of breakfast at Great Outdoors. They had one guy cooking eggs for about 300 people. One crew member was peacefully folding ham slices in half while everything else dwindled. Apparently folded ham is important.

I found some hard boiled eggs and fresh ripe pineapple. I put some other stuff on my plate but it was all cold and yucky. The eggs and the pineapple were excellent but what an odd breakfast!

Big fail on the Jewel’s part this morning for breakfast.

We went to O’Sheehan’s for foggy day drinks.  It’s a sea day at 11:30am and there is one bartender for all of O’Sheehan’s. One.

He is wonderful. So steady, hardworking, friendly. No matter how great, one bartender isn’t enough.  He did make an excellent hot toddy and my dad loved his Irish Coffee. He thinks he doesn’t like whiskey but the truth is out now!
