*LIVE* NCL Joy Bermuda 7-nite sailing from NYC in HAVEN-06/16/2024-w/pics

Recommended Posts

No one told us the Dali Lama was in town and staying next door to our luggage storage location. Literally thousands of people lining the street. Hopefully he will arrive soon and the masses will disperse before our car service arrives. Not holding my breath.

Sitting in the lobby of The Plaza, pretending like we belong, while waiting for stores to open.

Was just wondering, what time did NCL started calling for the "express" mob to self disembark

My fuzzy recollection is 7:30 for self disembark and not until 8:30 when they started to call the first color code Yellow. While waiting to tap my keycard for the final time, they were only allowing a few to go at a time...it was stop and go...stop and go.

When you got to the escalators to take you down to the baggage collection level, the port workers were careful not to allow too many people on the escalators at the same time and made sure there was ample space between people with luggage in tow like me. There were practically ten steps between the person in front of me and the person behind me. I guess there must have been mishaps in the past at the bottom of the escalators. Or I might have looked like I was liable to tumble off the escalator and cause a hazard to all around me. Why not just wrap me in yellow hazard tape.

I understand the safety measure, but that must have been the reason for some delay in the debark process. Once you reached the facial scanners there was no wait...this was at around 9:00.

I would have asked Taylor Swift to sing "Welcome to New York" for you but she is still on her Eras Tour in Europe.

Girl, welcome "home" from your home away from home, get back downtown safely into the air conditioned comfort of your own bedding, and get some sleep ... you now have 3 different very recent NCL cruises to look back and reflect upon for your thoughts & comments.

A quick look at Uber & Lyft for pricing now, usual quotes with "surge" demand prices yet to kick in ... not a good day to walk with luggage.  Safe & happy travel.

Thank you Henry. This was a much more restful cruise than the other two recent ones. And it was special being able to finally meet @graphicguy and @debenson0723 in person, both of whom I have cruised with before but never met and hope to cruise with again.

I walked over to 11th Avenue and was planning to take Uber/Lyft but a yellow taxi was waiting right there so I hopped in. Fare was $30 to travel four miles and worth it in this heat and humidity. I do try to take the yellow taxis knowing their plight.

Now I need to ready my stomach for a real steak dinner tonight at The Old Homestead. Sorry Cagney's...you've disappointed me too often. And yes, I am a snob.

Thank you @graphicguy, @Sugar Magnolia and @debenson0723 for your fun and entertaining live review. Did you know each other before the cruise?

When is your next cruise?

We are waiting to embark on the Prima. I know to watch out for the puddle in the Local if it is still a problem.

Have safe travels home!

We only knew each other through these forums but now it feels like we've known each other forever.

Have a wonderful time on the beautiful Prima. The ship does have its quirks but I have already sailed on her three times and maybe again this year. My friend just disembarked today in Southampton and already trying to get me to commit to a Viva sailing in April.

For some reason the Prima is very slippery. Other than the infamous slippery spot at the Local, it is slippery every where there are pools...large and small...and also at the thermal suite. Thankfully, they did not use the same flooring material at the new thermal suite on the Joy.

Very excited to hear your thoughts on the Prima.

Not sure what it is about the guests on this cruise….but…DANG!

Just got off the bus from Pierre 88 to LGA.  Lady sitting in front of me was bitching the entire ride that she has a 1:30 flight.   I think she wanted the driver to hear her.  Not sure he did.

Finally, I calmly said she’d get to the airport in plenty of time.  She shot a glance behind her right at me that would have cut a diamond.

Then, after we stopped at the drop off point, she’s not up to the front of the bus, practically knocking over an older lady sitting in the 2nd row.

As the driver was pulling luggage out of the bottom of the bus, she tried to elbo her way to the front!  One gentleman was having none of it and went back and forth to block her access.

She was incensed but know not to push it as he was 3x her size.

Just saw karma step in.  She was pulled out of the TSA check point for a “special check”!

I might be able to call in a favor at the FAA...

Haven disembark..

OOOOkay, wow - hardly anyone else in front of you from the 2nd photo but isn't that a much longer walk than usual for Haven or did you follow the colors for NCL airport transfer as called since you aren't in a hurry ??   Even without being partially escorted - sometimes, we always head for the AFT gangway at Pier 88 in NY to leave the ship (insider's "open" secret) as that's the shortest path and maybe 25 steps from the gangway ramp into the building's down escalators (elevator w lines for those in wheelchair) into the luggage holding area or bypass to exit via CBP.

Well, looks like you got plenty of time to sit back (I hear/know DL's new Lounge at LGA is larger & even better than the old days/pre-expansion) - have a bit/lunch & something cold before boarding.

LOL for Karen in getting "SSSS" but she's probably clueless about what it meant at the checkpoint.  Cheers since she's not flying the same flight on DL with you later.

Other plans ahead for cruising later this year ??

Supposed to do Fall cruise out of Quebec.

But, the miscreants I just cruised with are trying to talk me into a TA cruise.

You know you want to...

In the car service headed for jfk. All stores intact on 5th Avenue. Was a fun (humid) walkabout.

And the day of entitled continues.  Kids want to sit in First Class.  Mother is pleading with what I’ll  assume is some folks unwilling to switch.  Mother is pleading for the switch.   Bizarre.  Attendant offers ultimatum.  Go back to your assigned seats or leave the plane.

I want to sit in first class too. Maybe I will have a tantrum on the jetway.

And no blue boxes but it was a close call.

If anyone is embarking today, might want to skip getting to the pier early.  We’re still disembarking!

I dont get that either, but I'm guessing it's people flying in the day of and coming right from the airport?

I mean seems elevator logic should come into play here: allow others to get off before you try to get on, but we all know how cruise elevator etiquette always turns out ...

Thanks for taking us along on your cruise!
