FlowRider - Surf Lesson vs Ultimate Experience

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Does anyone know the difference other than the significant price difference.

Also, does anyone know how the online, pre-cruise reservation system works for this attraction?  It looks like only 8:00 AM or 7:30 PM are currently available for a cruise that is one year away.  What's going on during the other times?  Is this their way to fill up early/late times first, and add'l times will become available later?  Thanks.

I would assume the "day times" are for the "no charge" use.

Surf lesson = about 8 people per hour sharing the staff and time to learn

Free slots = queue as long as however many people are in the queue.

For stand up must be unassisted for lessons they can use a rope to hold to help balance free they no longer do

Ultimate = you and your group get the whole hour to you

No - during the day it will be free - but no lessons. See post #3

I'd recommend you wait till on board and try it during the free sessions first before ever paying for any lessons.

Agree

They usually have some sunset/evening free adult only sessions. There were never more than 8 people in the queue for an hour and most people said their experience was that was busy

I've done it before on Liberty, but that was 12 years ago.

Since your last time, the staff no longer helps you stand up, so if you want to do stand up, you need to be able to manage on your own.

Thanks, good to know.

We did the group lesson for our grandson and for him it worked out perfect. It seemed that kids who were good with a skateboard could pretty much self teach, he was pretty good on the boogie board tricks (criss cross with the sit spin both directions) BUT he did not ever skateboard and at 6' lanky he was not well suited to self learn. There were 8 in his class, the success rate was impressive, all 8 were able to do the standup part because as mentioned, in the class you get to hold only a rope plus he wasn't a big heavy guy, he's maybe 135 pounds, so the staff was able to stand out in the water next to him with an arm out just to let him get that first balance, after that he didn't need that, and the 2nd time up he was able to let go of the rope and just stay up about 90 seconds. So for a first timer I think its the step to getting there. Everyone gets 2 equal turns. Ours was on the last sea day and he still had to learn the self load onto the board, he was about 50/50 on that, but since it has been a while we are doing it on our upcoming cruise. We were so impressed with the teaching staff, they were able to get everyone up and surfing, but the skill does take practice and we do not have one where we live. The smiles on him were worth every penny for us. But there are a lot of kids who master it without the class. We have not run into their adding any extra classes, the flowrider is one of the busiest attractions on the ship. Hope this helps for anyone wondering.
