corona_gorda Posted May 28 #1 Share Posted May 28 (edited) Hi, Since we'll be sailing to many European ports during Irresistible Med, I was wondering if announcements & staff were more multi-lingual than Miami-based sailings ? On MSC, we heard French, English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German; is Virgin mostly (if not only) English ? CastleCritic Posted May 28 #2 Share Posted May 28 (edited) English and their native language. Which could be just about anywhere but on the ship I was on out of Athens it was largely Philippines. There will be no scheduled announcements outside of getting people to do the muster and disembark, and all the emergency ones were in English only. kaysha2004 Posted May 28 #3 Share Posted May 28 All the staff speak English. You will only hear the captain introduce himself over the loudspeaker on embarkation day. After that, there will be no announcements made during your sailing for anything.
Rare Tyler414 Posted May 28 #4 Share Posted May 28 English is the official maritime language. Now that doesn't mean every staff member is going to speak fluent English, but any leadership position must be able to speak English.

The VV ships are the same no matter where they are, everyone speaks in English, they are an American cruise line. As others have said there are almost no announcements, it’s all done via app notifications. Edited May 28 by jon81uk
Rare cantgetin Posted May 28 #6 Share Posted May 28 English is the language on the ship. Yes, many languages are spoken by the crew to the point that if someone couldn't handle English, they could find a crew member to help. The only public announcements on the ship after the muster drill are emergency announcements. IF there is an announcement, it will be an unscheduled "must inform everyone" thing, but any normal stuff is on the app, on posts at the gangway, and electronic signs in elevators and a few other locations on the ship. All guest facing crew speak English.
