Let down by Silversea

Recommended Posts

Just a head's up to anyone considering Silversea. We had our March cruise cancelled two weeks before departure. A refund was offered but no additional "incentives." On application to Silversea, including a snail mail letter, to the CEO requesting reimbursement for air fare cancellation fees, visa fees etc, we never even had the courtesy of a reply. This would not happened when Silversea was privately owned. So no reputation, and no courtesy to pax (and we have sailed with Silversea before). Forget Silversea!

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I cannot imagine how you feel having such an anticipated cruise vacation cancelled so short notice.

Would you please share more?

Where was the cruise sailing from and to?

What was the reason given for the cancellation?

Did you have cancellation insurance for the airfare fees?

Need to understand more about the situation to understand all sides.

Not all cancellation insurance covers you if the cruise line cancels the cruise, but if you did have this rider then you could potentially claim the cancellation fees and the visa costs.

You might want to repost on the Silversea forum, with additional information as to the specific cruise. There have been a number of threads there talking about different cancellations and the compensation being offered.

We just got off a Silversea cruise on the Silver Whisper.

Most disappointing cruise we have experienced in our 60+ cruises.  Things are changing quickly with Silversea, and not for the better.

We experienced a number of issues on this cruise - minor ones right up to major ones.  Instead of fixing the issues, Silversea's answer was to offer us a $1500 future cruise credit instead of just dealing with the issues.  This was on a 17K cruise.

What we have discovered - in the past couple of months the CEO of Silversea has left the company, quite a few of the senior cruise staff have moved to other lines, and we had a large number of new staff on this cruise who had no idea how to provide service.  It was actually pretty funny that our butler (who struggled to provide the most basic of services such as stocking our fridge with regular coke) was training other new butlers.  We then found out he had only been a butler less than 1 month.

I'll be doing up a full review and posting it on the Silversea board once we get over our jet lag.

Wow... I always thought that Silversea were held in quite high regard.  This is interesting and definitely will look for your review.
