cruisers5 Posted June 17 #1 Share Posted June 17 We are booked on MSC Fantasia, out of Barcelona, for March of next year. I’ve looked at some reviews of the ship on various websites and You Tube and people have said that smoking is all over the place, on balconies, in rooms, in bars, not just in the designated smoking areas, and Guest Relations doesn’t do a thing about it. Can anyone confirm this? My daughter is highly allergic to smoke, and it doesn’t sit well with me either, so I don’t want to book this cruise and then suffer for the week. Was on Splendida last year and it was happening on balconies and out on the decks. It was not in bars. I cannot confirm it was in rooms themselves. No one was enforcing it to my knowledge. I know some people had video and still nothing was done. Now in the USA it's a different story. Very rare to see it. Years ago on Orchestra in Northern Europe, they were very strict.

We are on the same cruise (or the one right after), boarding in Naples. I've seen the same commentary about "no smoking" treated more as a suggestion than a mandate on the Fantasia. Since we have the good fortune of only being highly annoyed by smoke and not actually allergic, we're going to report once, okay maybe twice, and try our best to ignore it. CruisingFox27 Posted June 19 #4 Share Posted June 19 We're currently on Grandiosa in the Mediterranean, I've seen very few people smoking.
RudiRatlos Posted June 22 #5 Share Posted June 22 Fantasia class has one design flaw regarding smoke: as long as a part of the casino is a smoking area, smoke from there tends to go upstairs to the piano bar. Apart from that we never experienced any smoke outside the designated smoking areas on Fantasia, Preziosa or Splendida, neither in the nordics nor in the mediterranean. ebeluga Posted June 22 #6 Share Posted June 22 That would be a deal breaker for me. So does it come down to individual ship management or cultural demographics? Booked on a TA from Miami to Barcelona on Seaside... Welcome any insight!
Rare Ryan82 Posted June 27 #7 Share Posted June 27 People will smoke in casinos, and thr outdoor areas where its allowed. Europeans smoke much more so people will undoubtedly smoke and vape on balconies. Its extremely unlike that people will smoke in bars.
ebeluga Posted June 27 #8 Share Posted June 27 I deduced then it is the ship management. I have sailed with other mass market lines in Europe and the "no smoking" on balconies was observed and strictly enforced. This is a severe fire hazard. I cannot imagine the chaos to evacuate on a 4000+ pax boats in the event of a fire. 1

We're still on our post cruise stay in France, I have been very surprised by how few people are smoking. It's markedly different from a few years ago. Sitting outside restaurant and bars, it used 5th be the majority smoked. The number of people smoking are certainly in the minority now.

Rare alserrod Posted June 29 #13 Share Posted June 29 I am fresh arrived from an European MSC cruise. Smoking was allowed in corners for two different pools plus one side in the casino (I do not know if it was allowed in any other sides). It was signed and people was respecting it definitely. In the case of pools, you would not smell smoke except if you were too close to a smoker In the case of casino, if you crossed it you would notice smoke. I had to cross casino only for theatre and... it was quite easy to cross that area via the upper or downer deck I haven't noticed any other person smoking out of these areas
