Embarkation day tour of ship?

Recommended Posts

I've never seen one offered, but you could check w/guest services to be sure.

You might study the deck plan before you board - locate your cabin and note the path you would take to get to commonly visited places such as Guest Services, Crow's Nest, MDR, Lido, Library, etc. Then go to those places when you board and see if "your" map worked. You might start with locating your cabin from a lower deck mid-ship as that is likely where you will board.

Safe travels - enjoy your cruise!

Thanks. That's disappointing but I get it. I just loved the chance to hear the crew talk about little secret ways to get here and there and all. I hate the technology that taken some of the more fun things away.

Once you meet your cabin steward, you could ask them if they have any tips - if anyone knows the quickest ways to get around the ship, they do 😊

That would also be a good question for one of the coffee chats - different crew join the CD and take live questions from passengers.

Navigating the Pinnacle ships is generally pretty easy. Music Walk is forward, just aft of  the World Stage.

Some of the shops are on the starboard side

The Pinnacle Grill and Rudi's specialty restaurants are a bit further aft. Ocean Bar is on the starboard side. The main dining room (non-scheduled seating) is at the aft.

Deck 3 forward is the World Stage, with the casino immediately to the aft. The art gallery is next (bow to stern) on the port side. More shops are on the starboard side. Next, the port side has the upstairs part of BB Kings.  At the atrium, you'll find the Grand Dutch Cafe on the starboard side, Walking aft is the photo center, and all the way at the stern is the upstairs main dining room.

Just explore the ship on your own...that is half the fun of embarkation day.  You really can't get lost...at every elevator is a map of that deck, along with a listing of which deck everything else is on.

In my early cruising years, ships would sponsor Embarkation Day tours with several hundred participants.  For many years, I have toured each ship on Embarkation Day to see what has changed since my last cruise and I invite roll call members to join me.  Sometimes it is only me with the most being 32 roll call members.  Now that HAL ships have ceased their tours, my roll call group relies on me for the briefings and answers to questions at each venue stop.

Ask on your roll call if an experienced cruiser would be interested in conducting a brief orientation tour for the new cruisers on Embarkation Day.

There are recorded self-guided art tours posted for Holland America ships at the address below - might be a good way to get to know the ship......

Thanks for this. I had a vague recollection that this was mentioned before on CC but was unable to find it once onboard and nobody I asked could help.

While I'm at it, at one time HAL did offer a behind-the-scenes tour but not on embarkation day. It was not listed among the excursions and the charge could not be applied to one's HIA allotment. It had to be arranged at Guest Services and the cost was $450.

The ones I'm talking about were free and offered by the cruise directors staff. I loved them. They were fun.
