3rd and 4th guests free changes

Anyone else noticed that some cruises, which had 3rd and 4th guests free, are now charging a fare above and beyond the port fees and taxes? The annoying thing is that on the page before selecting whether you want standard or plus it’s still saying the offer.

Sometimes they incorrectly flag an itinerary incorrectly with the 3rd and 4th are free. I've been on the website and spotted several times this has happened. If you really want to do that cruise, the best way is to contact your Princess Cruise Consultant and ask if the sailing is truly free for the 3rd and 4th passengers.

I've seen some itineraries that had the promo, but later removed it. For example, I booked a New Years cruise with the promo 3rd and 4th for free, but when I check the sailing the promo is no longer being offered and the cost of the cruise has basically doubled in cost.

I think it was the latter, because it used to be 3rd and 4th free. I just find the fact that the site is still advertising it, just before I press selection button, to be a bait and switch.

a couple of months ago, the site was glitching for a very long time, promoting this particular deal, but not displaying it for any of the cruises once you got to the selection. I had to wait till it finally worked properly for the cruise I wanted.

I spoke to Princess and a travel agent and no one even suggested the site might be glitching.

The problem is that booking two people in a cabin that holds more costs more than a two person cabin.  So you will pay more even if the other passengers are "free."

You are correct, third and fourth passengers are not totally "free" for the cabin, as you still need to pay for the taxes and port charges. As for the type of cabin if you price only for two people vs. four persons, there will be differences in the cabin prices I find, as true two person cabin of the same type will be cheaper than a four passenger cabin.

The cost between is not too much in most cases, but in general I found when I completed a trial booking for two cabins with two people vs. one cabin for four (with third and four are free), in most cases the two cabins are more than the single cabin. Whereas if there is no third and fourth free promo, getting two cabins can be cheaper than the single cabin.

I get the difference between:

fare

taxes and fees.

when I first looked at the room, the 3rd passenger had no fare, only taxes and fees.

now they have a fare, despite the 3rd and 4th free promotion.

Is it due to the new price structure that requires taxes/fees to be included in price?

I don’t see how that would suddenly add a fare of over $1000. The taxes and fees are still shown and are still $791.

Yeah, that’s odd. Maybe they just reached capacity for the 3/4 free on that cruise? Or are you getting it on all of them that have the offer attached?

Clearly says 3rd n 4th are free, then applies a fare to the 3rd.

I see the same thing when doing a “check pricing” booking. It says third/fourth passenger free then charges 4 x the taxes and fees for 3rd passenger
