blag Posted June 27 #1 Share Posted June 27 We intend to drive from Miami to NYC and do not want to stay in Miami. I have read, and been told, that lines for rental cars at locations near the cruise port can be very long. It would appear that on the morning of our debarkation, as many as 18,000 others might be debarking. I am wondering whether it will be better to go to the airport to pick up a rental car? I'd appreciate some advice as to how to get to the airport after debarkation, because if we don't drive to NYC, we will fly.
JohninDC Posted June 27 #2 Share Posted June 27 Yes -taxi or Uber/Lyft to MIA car rental center and get your car there. The ride to MIA from POM should take about 20-30 minutes depending upon day of the week and traffic.

Capt_BJ Posted July 1 #4 Share Posted July 1 (edited) there are no rental car offices at the port .... most go to the airport where there are large facilities. There are a couple of downtown locations but they are smaller and may or may not be better on any given day. If yours is a very busy day .... wellllllll .. do the math .... AND btw ... I have been on queue for over 2 hours trying to pick up a rental at Florida airports on multiple occasions .... AND btw if there are 18,000 arriving at the port by ship, there's another 18,000 arriving at the port to BOARD those ships contributing to the madhouse !!! blag Posted July 2 Author #5 Share Posted July 2 (edited) I see that Azamara doesn't specify where their ships will be berthed in Miami. I think that the actual terminal is allocated near to the time of arrival. I am not sure what address I should give to any private transfer provider. Azamara refers to the generic Port address, but not a specific terminal. How far in advance of docking is the berthing location known in Miami? 2flacruisers Posted July 4 #6 Share Posted July 4 If you are driving to Florida and don't want to drive to Miami to get on the ship, an option would be to drive to Fort Lauderdale, stay in a hotel there with parking, and use SAS Rides...shuttle service to and from Miami Cruise port. Their price used to be $15.00 pp, each way. They will pick you up at several Fort Lauderdale hotels and take you back to your car in Fort Lauderdale. We have used them.
