Travel Mom Posted July 15 #1 Share Posted July 15 We are in Haines 7-11 pm. Odd. Any suggestions?
oaktreerb Posted July 15 #2 Share Posted July 15 Are there any excursions offered by the cruise line? It’s a nice community to walk around and enjoy the environment. You will probably have all aboard at 10:30 so you’ll have a couple of hours. See if Steve Kroschel has a tour to his wildlife center. Maybe the cruise line will offer it. Usually places will stay while a cruise ship is in port. Check out the Hammer Museum. Yes, such a short time in port is odd.

sfaaa Posted July 15 #4 Share Posted July 15 It is a very small town with one main street and nothing much to see. I also doubt the free shuttle will be running at these late evening hours. I will stay on the ship.
Travel Mom Posted July 15 Author #5 Share Posted July 15 Yep that’s what it says! Read about some good bear tours, but not at night. 🤣

royal3 Posted July 16 #7 Share Posted July 16 (edited) If they are on Radiance of the Seas, they are in Skagway 0700-1700, then in Haines 1900-2300, the same day on the SB trips. Edited July 16 by royal3
Travel Mom Posted July 19 Author #8 Share Posted July 19 Correct. This is new to me. Just wondering what evening plans there are in Haines.
Rare karatemom2 Posted July 19 #9 Share Posted July 19 You don't say when you are traveling but if it is the next several weeks, it will still be light well into the evening. We actually had our best bear watching experience on any Alaska trip in Haines on an evening wildlife tour to Chilkat Lake there. We saw a Mama Brown bear and her cubs feeding on salmon, and another juvenile brown bear as well. It was pretty remarkable and around 8:30 p.m. at the very beginning of twilight on an August trip. So there will be wildlife options as well as probably things still open in town since the stores might stay open late to accommodate the ship's schedule.
