How long should we allow to disembark in Barcelona? Ease of finding Taxis?

Recommended Posts

Hello,
We want to book a morning tour on the day we disembark in Barcelona. Can anyone offer a rough idea of how long disembarkation/luggage and customs for US citizens might take? Our hotel looks like it's about 5-6 miles from the port.

Are taxis pretty easy to get from the port?

I appreciate any thoughts on how long we should allow that morning~

thanks!

Yes. When we were there last autumn, there were several waiting right outside the terminal building. You are never far from a cab in Barca.

you shouldn't have any problem to grab a taxi. Anyway, if there's not a taxi in the stand, call for it (it could be besides, in the next terminal, he will move)

This thread would help you

Barcelona has five cruise terminals. All of them are independent. Each one serves a single ship with its check-in system for new travelers, luggage collection and, if necessary, customs control of departure and arrival.

It doesn't matter if there is only one boat or if there are five boats that day in Barcelona. Each traveler goes to their terminal and they have enough staff for the number of passengers on the ship (serving a ship with 500 passengers is not the same as serving a ship with 5,000)

About passport control....

Which route will you have in the cruise?. Where are you leaving from?

Have a look to

Thank you that’s very helpful! We go from Paris to Barcelona on the Norwegian Dawn. If I read that correctly there won’t be passport control because we leave from France. Thanks for your help!

Assuming you are docked at the large cruise ship facility (which can handle 5 ships) there are a few factors.  Ship clearance (by the authorities) is usually a fast process (within 20 minutes).  Once the gangway is opened to the passengers, it is somewhat of a hike through the gangway pasageway, upstairs terminal, and than down the escalator or elevator to the main level.  Although there are immigration and customs officials, they rarely cause any delay.  You get your luggage and than you simply walk out of the terminal.  Outside there is an orderly taxi queue, but whether there are enough taxis will depend on some luck (how many other ships are in the port) and demand.  Sometimes you will be in a taxi in a couple of minutes and other times you may find yourself waiting 30 minutes (or more).

As to Passport control, it has always been a non-issue (for us) unless Barcelona was our first port in the EU.

I guess you mean you are leaving Le Havre, aren't you? (Paris is far away from the sea)

Absolutely any passport control within Schengen area countries.

It doesn't matter by plane, by road, by railway or by ship.

If you come to Europe and you have to take a new plane, passport control is done only on arrival. After you have arrived to any Schengen area country, all movements are considered domestic.

You will see passport booths but there will be no officers. They are just prepared just in case there's a ship coming out of Schengen area

If you wanna learn more, search for the town in Schengen (Luxembourg) and guess how it was their life before this treaty

In your case, you will have an unique passport control when arrival to Paris by plane and a last one when leaving home from Barcelona.

You are free to move to Norway, Greece or Iceland without any longer passport control within your stage in Europe
