bulldogz Posted August 8 #1 Share Posted August 8 Hello, just curious what the temperatures have been recently or what they will be next week? I have been looking and seems Juneau, Ketchikan and Icy Strait are about 59-70 degrees. I was hoping for a little warmer. Is this start of their fall season? I was there in July one year and it was in 80’s at some point.
CruiserBruce Posted August 8 #2 Share Posted August 8 Keep Google searching for those ports weather...you can make it so you see their weather daily, if you wish. That will give you factual data, rather than anecdotal. I do that for every trip for two pieces of info...average temps as we plan the trip, and actual temps as we approach departure. I also look at the forecasts.
AKJonesy Posted August 8 #3 Share Posted August 8 National Weather Service here, but I would not trust a forecast here for one week out. There are two big low pressure systems affecting southcentral Alaska right now and those will push to Southeast (Juneau, etc) over the next days. Depending how sophisticated you want to get with the weather, including marine forecast you can check here: https://www.weather.gov/ajk/ and here: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=58.3019&lon=-134.4197 Check out both the Satellite and Radar imagery as you get closer to arrival. sherryf Posted August 8 #4 Share Posted August 8 The weather this week is no indication of what it will be next week. I leave Saturday, so I've been watching the forecasts. This week they are having beautiful, very warm weather, in the 70s. Next week is looking like 60s with showers in most ports. It is very rarely in the 80s, especially in August. I have been several times in July, and only had 80s once, in 2009, when it was hitting record temps around 100 back home in Seattle. In August, we've almost always had temps in the 60s. The 70s they are getting this week are unusual. Do not expect warmer than 60s. Be prepared for anything and be happy if you get a little warm, sunny weather.
AKStafford Posted August 8 #5 Share Posted August 8 For Alaska, any weather forecast more than 36 hours out is a guess. Any weather forecast inside of 36 hours is also a guess. 1
