Rare YVRteacher Posted August 29 Author #259 Share Posted August 29 It is too bad that we didn’t have a later viewing time for Hubbard because the weather changed significantly in the afternoon. Rare YVRteacher Posted August 29 Author #260 Share Posted August 29 Le Cirque Bijou this evening was superb. This is an absolute treat of a show! Of course we stayed for the Norwegian farewell. Me, at 9:07pm after a big yawn: I don’t know why I’m so tired. I didn’t do anything today. Dad: you went to the spa! Me, later on at the bar with @troyphoto: “I feel like all I did today was eat, drink and nap!” Troy responded with a hearty “today?!” Drink tally Day 7 Dad 2 Bahama Mama Sail and Sustain 1 beer 1 Prosecco 2 Bahama Mama Yvonne 2 Painkillers Sail and Sustain Passion fruit tequila thing 2 Prosecco Coco Loco Martini which is completely different from Coco Loco Mojito. Coco Loco Martini tastes like Christmas in a fancy glass! 14
Happy fool Posted August 29 #261 Share Posted August 29 I just got back from my cruise tour with Holland America and haven’t been checking cruise critic. Thought I’d see if perhaps you had posted anything about your trip since you indicated that you would not do a “live from” for this cruise. I was delighted to discover this.
Happy fool Posted August 29 #262 Share Posted August 29 We were on the Jewel this spring and enjoyed the Le Cirque Bijou show. It was amazing. To anyone sailing on the Jewel, this is a don’t miss performance. 1

kitkat343 Posted August 29 #266 Share Posted August 29 You can ask your steward to knock on your door tomorrow when its time to clean your room if you want your dad to rest. We travel with kids and leave the room as late as possible, and the stewards clean the vacated rooms first and they'll let me know when they are done with those and we leave immediately to wait somewhere else on the ship. We usually have two rooms, and clear out of one and wait in the other.
Rare YVRteacher Posted August 29 Author #267 Share Posted August 29 Seward (turnaround day) morning balcony photos I had a great breakfast in Moderno today. The schedule for Haven and Suites breakfast on the Jewel never lists the last day but it is open. My tower of deliciousness was so good I told the maître d they should add this to the menu! Dad is still so mad that we have to change cabins that he pouted through breakfast until I got him a blueberry danish. Then I pretended I was full so he would eat some fruit and I gave him mango, papaya and pineapple. The fruit on this cruise has been so good!! One day in the MDR I was served unripe pineapple but that is the exception. 17

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 29 Author #269 Share Posted August 29 We had to be out of our cabin by 8:00am and we had to pack up our suitcases. It used to be that if you were in a suite or Haven and had to change cabins the butler and cabin steward would move your stuff without your suitcase needing to be packed. Not anymore. We received a letter detailing all the procedures for today and were instructed to leave our packed suitcases in the cabin. I knew most of the stores in Seward didn’t open until 10:00am so we didn’t need to leave the Jewel early. Cabinless, we tried to go to Spinnaker but it was locked. We settled into the library, me with a book and dad with a scowl as we waited for 10:00am. Then we took the free shuttle into town, explored the shops and went to the gift shop in the Alaska Sea Life Centre because I like the paintings done by the sea lion’s nose. I found a painting I liked and dad scoffed, “who would buy that?” I put the nose painting back. I also sat and used wifi for about 20 minutes. I have some complex stuff going on with the repairs to my home (now 53 weeks in and still not done) and have not been able to send emails using NCL’s wifi. Apparently email takes too much bandwidth so the Internet cafe manager has blocked it. This store has a terrific selection of books
Rare YVRteacher Posted August 29 Author #270 Share Posted August 29 (edited) I could have sat for hours and used the internet but I have a dad who gets impatient quickly so we moved on and walked along the beach. After a couple hours of walking we were hungry and I asked my dad if we wanted to eat in Seward or return to the ship. I really wanted to eat in town and was hoping that’s what he would choose. @shadowmeboy We were once again foiled in our attempt to visit the Seward Brewing Company as they don’t open until 5pm. This was a “last chance” since we aren’t booked to go on a cruise to Alaska next summer and even if we were the Jade (which is replacing the Jewel out of Vancouver) goes to Whittier instead of Seward. A place caught my eye so in I peeked and the atmosphere felt great and I looked at the menu to make sure there was something vegetarian and we had a wonderful lunch at the Highliner Restaurant. They had a terrific selection of draught beer for dad and a draught root beer for me! Dad took one bite of his clam chowder and exclaimed quite exuberantly “oh, that’s yummy!” Normally he is very reserved now that dementia has crept in and taken away so much of his personality but for him to be this demonstrative over soup, you know it was darn good soup!! Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing! Best nachos ever, and there was not one hair! They didn’t have wifi so the waitress connected me to her hot spot and I was able to get a couple more emails out plus post our Skagway day on CC. Rare www3traveler Posted August 29 #272 Share Posted August 29 WOW!!! I hope this 2nd week is better for you and Dad. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I have been almost 2 1/2 weeks getting my kitchen floor fixed from not one but two water pipe leaks. I was a Sophomore in High School when the 1964 Anchorage earthquake hit. Some family friends were living and teaching in Anchorage at the time. Their daughter was here visiting friends and it took 3 days for her to find out that her family was safe but their house was gone. BIG BIG BIG BIG HUG Love and prayers always

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 30 Author #274 Share Posted August 30 After lunch we continued toward the beach and dad swore at the wind because he was cold. I told him he did not wear the warm shirt I laid out for him today (a flannel shirt.) Dad’s response? “Well who did that? Somebody came and switched my shirt!” Near the high tide line hoards of unalived jellyfish draped across the rocks like clocks in a Dali painting. We stopped and watched an eagle watching the crows Then we stopped again to watch the people fishing for salmon I had to turn away for the bonk on the head part and I think my dad did too. At the harbour we saw a fisher person filleting a ling cod. He cut off small two pieces then threw the rest of the fish away. I was dismayed to see this. Another fisher person had a wheelbarrow full of halibut.
