To market Ravenna as a VenicePort  is somewhat of a stretch !!!! .

Venice Marco Polo Airport to Ravenna Port is 206KM (128Miles)

 

There are closer Airport

Bologna 92 KM ( 57miles) to Ravenna Port

Rimini 80 KM 50 Miles) to Ravenna Port

Forli 45 KM (28 Miles) to Ravena Port

 

Distances as per google

 

However you would have to search for flight from the UK to those closer airports they are not well served, Bologna would probably be your best bet.

Easiest way would be to fly into Bologna and then take the regional train to Ravenna. If I remember correctly the regional train takes about an hour to reach Ravenna.  The ticket is very inexpensive.  Bologna Airport is directly connected to the Bologna Centrale train station by a monorail.  We spent a day in Ravenna before our cruise and really enjoyed it.  It's a charming little town and has world class mosaics to see.

One issue in Ravenna is the small number of taxis. Regular cruise critics recommend the ship shuttle to get from Ravenna's train station. They advise that you can't count on a taxi in Ravenna. One RCL poster noted that there is NO Taxi stand at the port either. I imagine the taxi companies are fully booked ahead of time.

This is true.  There are also several local shuttle services that have been organized to meet the need.  We used the one put together by the Ravenna tourist office https://www.turismo.ra.it/en/ .  The same office also sells the tickets for the mosaic sites.  The port is about 20 minutes from the town.

Hope it is of use to people as this is a relatively new port.  I have been surprised to see people post that there is nothing to do in Ravenna.  I suspect they have only seen the train station and didn't walk the few blocks to get to the older, more charming part of town.  Ravenna has a very interesting history that explains why such quality mosaics are here.  Bologna is also well worth a day or two if time allows.

Your best options are to fly into Bologna or Venice.

 

If flying to Bologna you can get the monorail from the airport to Bologna Centrale Train station, then the regional train to Ravenna (€8.00 in July 2024 and no need to pre-purchase tickets as no seat allocations and can not sell out) and then probably use a ship or prearranged shuttle to get from Ravenna train station to the ship as there are very few taxis in Ravenna. Another option may be to get your ship shuttle from Bologna airport to the ship if it is offered. 

 

If you fly into Venice you could get the ship shuttle from Venice airport to the ship or if spending time in Venice there may be a ship shuttle from Venice City to the ship. You can also get the train from Venice to Ravenna though it does require a change of trains at Bologna or Ferrara.

 

It may be best to check with your cruise line to see what shuttle options they offer from Venice and Bologna to the ship. It also may depend on whether you want to go directly from the airport to the ship or want to spend some time visiting a place before the cruise. I can highly recommend spending some time in Ravenna as it is a lovely town with spectacular mosaics. We spent a night there in July and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
