Debs224 Posted March 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2006 We are travelling April 30 on Elation to San Juan, St. Thomas, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. Is there any way to find out what ports will be tender and which are just walk off? :)
hnschipper Posted March 31, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2006 I know from personal experience that San Juan and St. Thomas are not tender ports. Don't know about the other 2.
Debs224 Posted March 31, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure that Half Moon Cay is, but I can't find any info about Grand Turk since it is such a new port.
nanbob Posted April 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Half Moon Cay is definitely tender and I believe Grand Turk is walk off...Carnival built the dock- it should be done by now. Please post a review when you return. We are sailing on the Elation in June. Thanks!
zqvol Posted April 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2006 San Juan and Grand Turk are for sure walk off ports, St. thomas likely is but might not be (I think that at the end of April of lot of ships have left for Europe so it will probably be a walk off too). HMC is a tender port.

Debs224 Posted April 1, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Thanks so much. I found the website for Grand Turk's new cruise centre and it is definitely dock, not tender. :) Looks like HMC is the only tender we are going to have.
Hootsie Posted April 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Any port can turn into a tender port. When we were in Cozumel in 2004, the dock was full and we had to tender in. Three out of four of our ports were tendered. On our upcoming cruise, they are all docked........thank GOD! I hate the tendering process.

cruzn buckeye Posted April 1, 2006 #11 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Ever wondered what it would be like to ride in a CCL lifeboat????? The tenders for HMC are exactly that! We found it to be quite fun! There is a lot more room in those lifeboats than it seems by looking at them!
zqvol Posted April 1, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Haven't been in carnival's but have been in another lines. They were smaller than Carnivals because the ship is smaller but I can tell you that they can get hot, stuffy and bouncy real quick. But, if ther eis a nice breeze and calm seas they are just like being in a nice boat on your local lake.
crisp1 Posted April 1, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2006 In order to figure out whether it's tender or not, I usually give it a poke :) 3 of our 4 our tendered, GC always was, Cozumel never was but is for now, Belize is and Costa Maya isn't. And I'll verify all that in just over a week ;)
MrLee Posted April 1, 2006 #14 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Cozumel is definately a tender port. When I was there in December there was almost nothing left of the docks since the hurricane.

Leo Jay Posted May 4, 2006 #16 Share Posted May 4, 2006 How bad is the tendering process in actuality? Sounds like it would take a long time.
bar10der421 Posted May 5, 2006 #17 Share Posted May 5, 2006 Ever wondered what it would be like to ride in a CCL lifeboat?????The tenders for HMC are exactly that! We found it to be quite fun! There is a lot more room in those lifeboats than it seems by looking at them! Just got back from HMC and they now have two large double deck tenders there, DH estimates they held maybe 140ish people each. Made the tendering process go much faster, it was not bad at all. A few things have changed since we were there last, but it is still one of the best places a cruise ship could stop!! Absolutely beautiful!
