MrBill64 Posted April 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2006 Now this is not cut in stone, but gut feeling says that Southwest will be announcing their schedule extension later this week. On their web site they have this quote from their air fare specials page, "Travel May 9, 2006 through end of schedule. (We are currently accepting reservations through August 3, 2006.)" The key part of that phrase is "through end of schedule". Whenever this phrase is found, most of the time a schedule extension is coming up very soon, within a few days. An educated guess would be Thursday, April 20th at 11am EDST. So for those looking to book Southwest, get ready this Thursday, 4/20. (I will make good use of the edit key if I am wrong :p ) Bill

I have recently chatted with BluIDblonde from that cruise too, not sure if you remember her. We too have cruised the CB, President's week 2005, so it appears we have similar tastes in ships ;) . We are going back on Princess next winter on the new Crown out of San Juan. Air fare for President's week to San Juan is insane. We will be flying out of Newark instead of Albany due to the sky high fares out of Albany. I will make sure I honk whenever traveling down route 7. Hoosick St in Troy is always such a fun time  . Bill
marvelous M Posted April 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2006 Wow that is great how is she??? She emailed me about a summer program for her son and I was going to see how she made out but my old computer crashed and I lost everything. How did you like the CB we were on it 3-18 this year and had a mini suite the very last one that is covered. It was nice but--not the Constellation. We were thinking of doing the one out of San Juan next year or Mediterrean. Did you try out of Boston for air fares???? Or even Syracuse we did the air with Princess and it worked out great first time we were actually home early!!! Tell blueyed blonde I said hi. Prepare yourself for the summer construction on 7!!!! Big things going on in Brunswick.

FlorenceItaly Posted April 19, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 19, 2006 In my opinion I didn't get a deal, but I need the flexibility SW gives me should I have to change my plans. I am able to use the credit for up to a year. I am going to Chicago, but things could change as time nears. I actually could have gotten a better rate on American. mike215 Posted April 19, 2006 #9 Share Posted April 19, 2006 I am not impressed with SW's current internet specials. I could hope for a DING! special but I booked with American for less. Does any experienced Southwest flyer think their fares will go down? I doubt it.
FlorenceItaly Posted April 19, 2006 #10 Share Posted April 19, 2006 It's anyone's guess. I paid $352 RT from OKC to Chicago! That is high to me, but I think the days of airfare deals are over. I would have booked with American for slightly less had I not needed the flexibility. I am booking this for a land trip, versus cruise. What is your timeframe, and where are you going? The DING specials can be very limiting. Marie
kelmac Posted April 19, 2006 #11 Share Posted April 19, 2006 I am not impressed with SW's current internet specials. I could hope for a DING! special but I booked with American for less. Does any experienced Southwest flyer think their fares will go down? I doubt it. With fuel costs going up, and Delta's loss of market share, I think most airlines are experimenting with higher fares. We have a large SW presence here in ABQ and Delta use to be number two; but Delta has lost so many customers, that America has moved into the second spot. All this, with demand going up over last year. We could see high prices all summer long?????????(I've drop plans for our usual flight to Montana) Kel
mike215 Posted April 20, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2006 I was interested in Phila to Ft Lauderdale. This Apr06 I paid $158 rt internet special. Same flights internet special now would cost $280 rt. American to Miami (which is my ultimate destination) is $274 rt, flight times are more convenient and non-stop - important considerations to me. I doubt we will be seeing any real deals anymore. The DING! fares are great if you don't have a specific time in mind.
katie286 Posted April 20, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 20, 2006 I ended up with $263.60 RT from Long Island to Tampa in August. I've been waiting so long for the airfare to open up past August 3rd. I went on right away to book our flights. I wanted to get $99.00 each way on Southwest as the airport is 10 minutes from my house. That would have been $218.00 RT. Well, the $99.00 fares are unavailable on Sundays!! (My Luck!) So I'm paying $144.00 one way and $99.00 the other way. Its OK I guess. I know the cost of gas is a factor. We used to fly for $109.00 RT to Tampa!! Those days are gone!!
