little miss s Posted June 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2004 Can anyone provide some details about the dress code in San Juan? I've read that the dress requirements in most of the upscale hotels and casinos is "Casual Elegant". What is "Casual Elegant"? That's a new one on me. On the ship I usually wear nice sundresses and my DH wears dockers and a golf shirt. Does this qualify as "Casual Elegant"?
CrusinElf Posted June 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2004 We sailed out of San Juan last year, and went to dinner in Old San Juan before the ship left port. I wore a black jumpsuit, my friend wore white capris with a matching jacket and our DHs wore slacks and shirts. Casual - yes. Elegant - uh, not exactly. We didn't feel out of place or underdressed at all. No, we weren't in the casinos or clubs (that usually get started around 11pm) but I think we'd have been OK there too. Nanatravel Posted June 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2004 Dockers and a nice sport shirt like a tropical print, silk T, or Spanish or Cuban style short worn outside of the pants not tucked in are fine with shoes not sneakers or sandals. Ladies, the sky is the limit! After dark, the bands start to play and the lounges are the place to be. A Sun dress, cocktail dress, nice pants ensemble, etc. with matching sandals or dress shoes are perfect. Don't miss a stop at the Wyndham El San Juan. Their casino and lobby bars are really opulent. trish1c Posted June 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2004 I would imagine it's a nice way of saying clean clothes with no holes in them & we reserve the right to throw you out of our establishment if we don't like the way you are dressed. pcur Posted June 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2004 I think it's a variation on the "no shorts, please" rule. They want you to dress like you would for a nice night out. Your clothes sound just fine.
