Just Back from Majesty of the Seas 4-28-06

Recommended Posts

This was my first cruise and I'm hooked! While we didn't do half of what we could've and should've we had a nice relaxing cruise. The ship was beautiful - she did show some aging but nothing serious, just minor blemishes. It was very clean and most of the staff were great!

We missed Cococay due to rough seas - I just knew that'd be my luck since that's what I was looking forward to the most! We spent the day at sea and they added a few things to the daily list of activities - Movie, Casino opened early, can't think of anything else but I do have the compasses still. Oh we arrived in Nassau that evening and were told we could go into town that evening but since nothing was open but bars we decided to stay on board.

We never ate in the formal dining room as planned - the Windjammer food was pretty good and we just found it easier to stroll in there when we got hungry rather than changing and being there at a certain time.

We spent over 3 hours shopping in Nassau - mainly looking for all those great bargains on diamonds we'd heard so much about - unfortunately we didn't find any good bargains - of course since it was Sunday many of the stores were closed. After shopping we took a carriage ride - kind of scary and not very informative but a nice way to see the town. After that we headed back to the ship to drop off our bags and decided it was a little too cold for the beach (mid 70's) and DH's feet hurt so bad we decided against any sightseeing (wish we had've done SOMETHING other than shop) but we enjoyed the empty pool deck and bar.

All in all it was a nice trip, definately worth the money. I'd be happy to attempt to answer any questions anyone may have.

Glad to hear that you're hooked! Be sure to go over to rccl.com and sign up for the C & A Society; and book another trip! :D

Sorry you missed Coco Cay, but I'm glad to hear you had a great time anyways!

I am going on the Majesty next friday 5/12. I hope we don't miss Coco Cay, I have never been there and looking forward to it. Did you know if the cruise prior to yours missed it also?

Was there a Bolero's type lounge on board where they played latin music?

How was embarkation/disembarkation? Was it quick and painless?

Paint your Wagon Lounge was pretty nice - we only went there on the last night for the Quest game - funny, advice don't sit in a seat near the walkway. It wasn't very big, the smoking section was a very small area near the bar. The night we were there the lounge filled up very quickly and people ending up standing in front of us so my advice is get there early for any shows.

Not sure if there was a place that played Latin music all the time but I know there was a Salsa class one night in one of the bars.

Also not sure if the cruise before us missed Cococay or not.

Embarkation was simple. We got there about 11:45 am and got right in showed them our ID's, Set Sail Pass and B/C's they gave us our sea passes and we got on board they snapped a pic for ID purposes and we were on our own. Rooms weren't ready till 2pm and luggage arrived about 6pm.

Disembarkation was easy but very long wait. They said it was extra long due to the immigration strike. We got out of there about 10:30am. Long lines but the process was pretty simple.

I will be going in June (3Night) on Majesty of the Seas too. Just a few questions:

1. Are all three nights formal nights? If not, which one is?

2. Which deck/cabin were you in? Was it clean?

Thanks in advance.

Only formal night was the 2nd night (cococay)

We were on deck 2 cabin 2635. It was clean but small. There was a bad odor on the 2nd floor hallway constantly but you couldn't smell it in the cabin at all. I'm thinking maybe the trash storage was close by since that's what it smelled like.

I just got back from the Majesty on the 24th, and we were very lucky to have made CocoCay. In all my cruises that were scheduled to go to CocaCay, I only missed once.

There is only 1 formal nite on both the 3 and 4 nite cruises, and certainly on the 3 nite (and I suspect the 4 nite as well), 'formal' is not as 'formal' as the longer cruises.

We were in 5595, an inside cabin. It was clean, but like the OP said, it, like the rest of the ship, was showing some age. I always book cabins on this deck on the Majesty - convenient to everything (especially the casino!).

Don't miss eating in the dining room though - the food choices (and I think quality) is definitely different than what you get in the Windjammer. Escargot on formal nite (to die for!!), etc.

To the OP, don't know if you knew it or not (if not, you'll be prepared for your second cruise!), even though you didn't eat in the dining room, gratituties should still be given to the dining room staff for the table you were assigned, or individual gratituties to the people serving you in the Windjammer, and it's appreciated by dining room staff and tablemates if you let them know if you won't be dining with them.

So glad you enjoyed your first cruise!! You'll be hooked now for sure!!

Yes thanks to these boards I was aware that tips should still be given to the dining room staff. I didn't however let the staff and tablemates know we wouldn't be dining with them, since we had actually planned on going just didn't make it. Next time I will definately try the dining room though.

I've been on the Majesty of the Seas twice(2003 and 2005). We love that ship and the Itinerary. The rooms are small, but we didn't mind. This ship is our families favorite!

The Food, Entertainment and Itinerary are awesome!!!!

I just got off the Carnival Miracle a couple of weeks ago and it was okay, but I have decided to stick with RCI from now on. The food and entertainment did not compare.

I'm sorry you missed Cococay it is beautiful there! We missed an island this trip also Costa Maya because of rough water and they have a pier to dock at, but they didn't want to take chances of smashing into it. It's always disappointing to miss an island.

We were on the Majesty for the 3-night leaving April 14. This was our first 3-nighter (24th cruise). Our cabin was an inside on deck 6 which is a half-deck that on the deck plans looks like it was just slid in between two other decks! The room was small, but comfortable. Walking to our cabin involved walking past an area that usually had a strong sewer smell. Other than that everything was great...we're anxious to go again, but the good rates don't show again until August--hurricane issues! We made Coco Cay and have been fortunate to have never missed it. I discovered the nature trail and walked almost around the entire island. Our dining room experience was wonderful including food, service, and tablemates. We had been on the NCL Sun just prior to this and their food has really gone down hill: shrimp salad instead of shrimp cocktail, no duck (had duck on majesty), etc. Majesty makes a good short getaway. I enjoyed the Paint Your Wagon lounge because of the murals and the fact that the movie and music are some of my favorites.

Now we are waiting anxiously for our one-night on the Freedom, June 3.

We are booked for our third jaunt on the Majesty for the weekend before Juky 4th (maybe they'll have some fireworks???).

Anyway, it is such a great trip - And it is my first as a platinum C&A member (my wife will be platinum after this cruise).

Only a couple of observations - I have been to CocoCay three of three times - at this point, we'll most probably just stay on the ship and relax by the pool. As for Nassau, been there five times already so we'll also probably just stay on the ship (unless Mindy needs more jewelry).

Last time we were onboard (last January) she was in some serious need of repair and I hope RCCL has kept up with that (kids room had plumbing problems). She is getting dated and is in need of a refurb (hope they do it soon) but for the price and convenience it is still a great deal.

As for formal night, there is one but it is not really enforced or even followed by many (I've even seen jeans in the dining room on formal night). Also, since it's only a three night, I'll probably leave the suit home myself and just do a sports jacket (many men are doing this now - at least they were on the past few cruises we've done).

If you are thinking about this itinerary, it is great for relaxing and the best deal I've found ever for a two tone gold omega was in Nassau (ask the cruise shopping consultant for her card).

Bruce, you and your wife should both be at the same level in Crown & Anchor. I've done more cruises than my hubby, but our numbers are linked, and he gets the credits too. Just call them and let them know. That way, you can BOTH be platinum this cruise!!

A few years ago, our girls were visiting my parents over the summer down in Florida. My parents surprised them by taking them on a 3 night cruise on Majesty of the Seas. They sailed from Miami and did stops in Cococay and Nassau. They had a wonderful time, and for the past few years, all we've been hearing from the kids is how much fun it would be to go on a cruise as a family! Now we're booked for a 7-nighter on Mariner of the Seas for next month; it will be my husband's and my first time on a cruise, and our girl's second. We all can't wait!

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience. I will be looking forward to my June 30th cruise on Majesty and will definitely dine in the dinning rooms.

Minnie & Mickey - We are also on this sailing! Since it's not a 7 night (or more) there won't be an official "Meet & Mingle" but maybe all us CC'ers can get together at some point.

I don't think that the Majesty has a Bolero's at this time. She didn't the two times that I sailed her. My understanding is she is going in for a major Sovereign type over haul nest year and will get a Bolero's, Johnny Rockets and Sorrento's then.

Thanks for clearing that up. The RCL website virtual tour makes it seems like all the ships have a Boleros. Oh well hope they have mojitos at the other bars.

Jules815- You can start getting excited now because you are going on a FABULOUS ship. Be sure to get tickets for the ice show early or they go quickly- do NOT miss it,the special effects are fantastic.

There is so much to do that you can be endlessly busy,or as relaxed as you want. Great food, great service, and lots of fun. A great family vacation choice.

I'm really glad to hear it! When we asked in January they told us it was not being planned - Glad they changed their minds! It's a great ship but it does need a refit (at least replace the bathrooms!).

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. The gym IMO was pretty small, I only went to look at it, never worked out there but at that time it wasn't busy and they seemed to have a decent amount of equipment. I know what you mean about convincing DH about a cruise, mine wanted nothing to do with it but he really enjoyed it (only hating the flights) honestly he enjoyed it more than I did, but only because he was so boring - we don't have the same interests at all - I wanted to explore and have fun, he wanted to eat, relax and drink but it was definately worth the money and I look forward to our next cruise. Have fun!!
