We are on the Vision in just 5 weeks. Have some questions. Can you board around 1130am? In Juneau did the cruise line offer to take you to the Medenahll glacier for free? Had herd rumors that this would happen. For all of you Non US citizens did you get your green card or passport back in time to use it Skagway? We are on a tour that goes into Canada. It is not a cruise line tour.

Hi there,

We went on the Vision to Alaska 3 years ago and had a great time.

You can board as early as 11:30 or noon, but do not expect to do so. This way, if you are able to get on board, it's a bonus. Our last two cruises, something had happened and we were delayed in boarding; no big deal, but we certainly weren't on board as early as some people have reported. Just be prepared either way.

The cruise line does not pay for or provide free transportation to Mendenhall Glacier. There will be tour buses lined up at the pier that will take you to and from the Glacier - back then, it cost us $10.00 each round trip. They drop you off and come back for you a few hours later; it was a beautiful, scenic trip. Definitely recommended.

The excursion you are speaking of about briefly entering Canada; is it the White Pass Railway? If so, we also took that trip and did not require our passports at all. They stopped at the border briefly and there was only a sign that said U.S./Canda border. It was unpatroled.

Have fun!

Supposedly RCI is going to provide transportation to Mendenhall Glacier for Vision cruisers to atone for cancelling Tracy Arm on its itinerary in 2006.

As to the White Pass Railroad, I believe it's only the excursions that go beyond the Summit to Fraser, BC that need to bring proof of citizenship. The Summit is at the US/Canada border.
