DougYWG Posted July 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2004 We are planning a Christmas cruise with our two daughters ages 22 and 19. We are from Canada where the drinking age in our province is 18. Our younger daughter would like to be able to go to the discos and bars with her older sister as she does at home. I have heard the cruise lines won't let the teenagers into bars unless they are 21. Is this true? If so is there anyway to overcome this?
BaumD Posted July 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2004 Some cruise lines (like RCCL) allow 18-20's to drink beer and wine. You need to check the policy of the cruise line that you are planning on.

kitty9 Posted July 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2004 The age varies by cruise line and also by the local port regulations. On some lines you have to be 21 to drink any alcohol and one some you can only drink beer and wine at 18.
imsulin Posted July 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2004 What cruise line are you going on? I think that RCI and Celebrity are the only one that allows drinking (wine and beer) at age 18.
serene56 Posted July 3, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 3, 2004 You asked if the kids can go into bar or lounges. (not about drinking) I am pretty sure that your daughters can go to the bar /lounges even without drinking.. I know my boys did. This was on both Carnival and Royal. To get served drinks they would have to be the age appropriate of the cruise lines.
CaribbeanCruisesRock Posted July 3, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2004 When docked in US ports the legal drinking age is 21........ some cruise ships like royal caribbean allow 18-20 year olds to drink beer and wine.
imsulin Posted July 4, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2004 On Alaska and Hawaii cruises, the legal drinking age on board and at port is 21, no matter what the line. (I know you aren't doing an Alaska cruise over Christmas, though!) I think the age for going into discos is 18 on ships, but bars and casinos may have different age requirements, depending on the cruise line.
