Cruise Ship Tips Over!!!

The ship did not "tip over". It listed apparently hard a-port due to an apparent rudder/steering problem. Ship remained seaworthy and returned upright. Captain, staff and crew handled the situation professionally and ship returned to Port Canaveral under escort from the Coast Guard.

Several people were injured, a few seriously. The ship had made arrangements for ambulances and medical personnel to be at the pier when the ship docked.

The only ship I ever saw that "tipped over" was the Poseidon!!

Ok...SORRY for the use of "tip" over as I am EXTREMELY busy at work and it was the first word that came to mind when my friend sent me this link and I wanted to rush to inform my fellow cruise critic members.

Thanks for the info...I just went to Kroooz-cams.com and saw a huge ship at Port Canaveral. I was going to ask which ship it is. I think it's berthed at the Carnival area.

Yes, people interested should go over to the Princess board where there is a ton of info. Discussion has been ongoing since yesterday afternoon.

You people are killin' me! :D Do you actually read the posts within a thread before you respond?

Absolutely not!!! If they read all the posts, where would the fun be in reading all their responses. I have already learned enough on this topic from the various posts to ascertain that the Coast Guard doesn't need to investigate...all the cruisecritic "experts" have posted what really happened.

Oh well, not much on TV tonight....back to the threads.

There was an issue with the autopilot which resulted in a listing to the port side. The problem was corrected and the ship returned to level.

Tip Over = Glug, Glug, Glug to the bottom of the ocean.

Listing = leaning

Both would make me doodie.

OK, I've just finished reading the entire 18 page post. First, the little girl will be ok with some rehab. Her artery was cut from falling debris. The older gentleman is still in critical condition with a colapsed lung. Many (300+) passengers with minor injuries, 48 taken by ambulance to hospitals. People on board say the crew has been exceptional. Passengers will be reimbursed for costs to get home from Canaveral.

We got off the Grand Princess the day it listed severely February 4th, 2006. It was the end of our cruise, we weren't on board at the time of the list. (Princess obviously has an issue with this). Then, Princess had the fire a couple of months ago on the Star. BAD year for them.

Personally, I think 17 levels for a cruise ship is a bit much. (Elevator says 18, but there is no 13th floor.)

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that was injured or may sustain any fears afterwards.

The ship tipping over is rarely of any real concern... sinse it doesn't happen, but ships that tip even 30 % can cause very serious injury. When we were on the Pride just a few weeks ago a whole big stack of dishes came crashing down in the middle of dinner. We weren't rocking much at all. No one seemed to feel the ship tip but the physics of gravity/ mass created a landslide affect. Scared everyone near it. No one was anywhere near this counter with dishes and a second later... CRASH. It felt like there were ghosts around... "what was that noise?"

Not to say that this is a funny situation.. but one can't help but laugh at the bit of whimsy the writer of that article added when he stated, "Tuesday night's movie aboard the ship was supposed to be "Titanic," according to several passengers."

Anyhow... i've been reading through these posts and i've stumbled upon numerous threads of listing ships from previous years... I'd say a good handful of occurances. It's interesting that it is hardly on the news... but I bet this won't be the last time we hear of something like this

Scary nonetheless...

30 degrees is a VERY considerable list! Considering the Crown Princess listed 15 degrees...

And the movie on MUTS that night WAS supposed to be Titanic, LOL!!

Anyone else wish the hosts would change the title of this thread??? LOL

If the thread or the people on the thread bother you why do you keep coming back? Not everyone is on here all day everytime. Some people have lives other than just being on the boards. It's a free country (I mane internet) they should be able to say what they want as long as it isn't mean.

I couldn't have said this better myself! Its almost nerve racking to post on here becuase people will literally FLAME you for mispelling or using the incorrect word...I feel like I'm back in Kindergarten again. This place is supposed to be for people to help other people out with their own knowledge and expreiences not to get reprimanded for the wrong use of a word, there are way too many uptight people on here looking to police and reprimand...Jeez....I am the OP BTW and as I previosly stated I was at work when I posted this and was very busy and wanted to post the link for those who did not know yet.

The problem is all of the posters coming from non-Princess Forums flaming the fire.....
