Home video of cruise ship that tilted

I feel like a big baby for even feeling this way. Despite what one of my best friends, an MD has said (She swears a wide variety of reactions is NORMAL and to be expected. That I am well within the normal range).

Your friend is right;) I'm sure it is normal for what you been through. I'd probably tear up just turning on the water in the sink.

If you ever watched the "Long, Long Trailer" with Lucy and Ricky. Just being around a whole bunch of confusion of folks running around in the trailer....gave Nicky the flash back of ..Trailer brakes....Trailer brakes....Trailer brakes. I'm sure there will be something that will recall the memory. But like you said this too shall pass:)

I know this has been said in every response to the video but I have to say it too WOW, WOW, WOW  This was incredible! She certainly did a wonderful job with the whole thing.

Even after reading all the posts from folks who were there, I had not gotten the sense that the ship had turned. She said it and the video showed it! This I find very interesting....JUST LIKE THE GRAND.

The other Very Important thing I noticed on the video was that the captain stated that the computer system had been turned off and therefore there was no danger of the ship listing again..... ah, ha! Now we're getting somewhere! That says to me that it was a computer malfunction with the auto pilot and it did the turn, going at a high speed (for a cruise ship) and listed......

I actually feel better about that ....they don't have to use auto pilot while they find the problem and fix it! That makes me feel better to know that they are probably actually steering the ship right now instead of auto pilot.....that's why they were so sure of the safety of the ship and allowing her to go back out. whew, i really do feel better about those 2800 ish people on board her right now.....

You know, I just have to say that I was so close to cancelling our November Crown cruise due to all of this but as I watched that video, even though it was scarey, and emotional....just the sound of the intercom and the captain coming on with his announcement.....the balcony cabin with the little table and chairs where I always have my glass of wine before dinner....the upper deck outside and the pool, I could almost smell the suntan oil and taste the pina calada (spelling?)

BOTTOM LINE....CRUISING IS IN MY BLOOD....I gotta go on that November cruise and just say my prayers that God will see fit to keep us all alive and safe....but IT'S there in my soul......GOTTA GO CRUISIN' !!!!!

:)

Wow!

That's all I can say about this video. I haven't seen much coverage of the Crown Princess story up here except the same photos that the media sucked in initially from the Associated Press, which didn't give you any sort of idea of which way the horizon way. This helped out immensely and also gave me perspective to see how much water was in the pools to see how much of a list there really was (since some characters on here are saying the ship listed far worse than it really did).

The illustrious pool water debate has been solved, not all the water left the pools as some were saying, two different pools and both were about half full (or half empty, which ever you prefer).

Kudos to the Captain for speaking the truth and for his thoughts on the situation. It's intriguing that the computer was immediately disengaged, makes me wonder if that was the cause but I'm still waiting for the official word.

Good job on finding the link and thanks for sharing it with us all!

Even though she was pretty calm, you can hear the shakiness of her voice. This video made it pretty real for me. We all think we know how we'd react if a ship "only" titled 15 degrees or so (or whatever they've now determined), but her voice conveyed to me that those onboard had no way of knowing in those few moments that the ship wasn't actually going to capsize. Very moving video. I enjoyed hearing her surprise when the captain announced that everyone would receive a full refund.

Thanks, Amanda, if you're reading this. The shakiness in your voice probably matched just about everyone's. My hands were shaking for a few minutes also -- but you did a great job keeping that camera steady!

Your cabin was apparently on the same deck and side as ours (Baja 11, port side). The video mirrors the view we had although we were a little further aft. We didn't have a video camera with us so we have been able to connect the events through yours.

Thanks for having the presence of mind to pick up the camera. I was up on deck 16 overlooking the pool, on the starboard side, but my daughter was in our cabin so she had a similar experience to you.

You certainly had an "adventure" on your honeymoon. I hope you had a great time up to that point. :) Have a wonderful, healthy, happy marriage!

Excellent video, and thanks for linking it for us.

It does make me wonder, though, why this has not received much attention in the media, in favor of less factual reports. Hmmmmm.

You know better then that, the truth does not sell. :D

1. To the Long Long Trailer remark. I LOVE That movie.

2. To the truth. I've not seen one person who was not truthful about THEIR experience. I've met many of the people who are posting about this and all are posting to the experience they had as I saw them after. The people who were shaking then, uncontrollably btw, are writing those reports now. Others, like my roomie, are just as they were then. Except for that dipstick in the hall looking for a payday, no one seems to be blowing this over their personal experience.

In an incident like this you are going to get a gamut of reactions. Amanda focused her energy on reporting. Some focused on helping others. Some sat and quietly fell apart. Everyone did something different with THEIR personal adrenaline. I am heartsick that people that report being terrified have had their reports and feelings sullied on the boards. Those experiences are as real as those who were calm. Humanity is a large and varied experience. Which is just the way it should be.

Amanda and Jacob,

Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I'm happy you both got through it without too much ordeal. Seriously, Amanda, you should consider working for CNN :-)

By the way, my heartfelt best wishes and congradulations to you both! I wish you a long and wonderful happy life together!

At least your honeymoon with be the topic of conversations for some time!

Rick

Nancy I was referring to the media and the truth in general that the media does not want you to know, and what the media embelishes to gain their ratings in any story, not the passengers who experienced this incident. :)

wow, she dictated the events pretty good. you can tell she was shaken up.

I feel bad for Captain Proctor as well as the passengers. On our 7/2 cruise you could tell in the sound of his voice he was proud of the ship and was enthusastic about its operation and lnnovation. (Watched "interview with the captain" After watching the video and meeting him in person on the cruise, I can only imagine how he must have felt as well

Three points:

Fantastic first person account, to bad there was no footage of the staircase from hell or flying old women in the casino as posted by another.

For a “honeymooners” cabin, it looked normal.

The turn was to starboard or right. The lady points out that the furniture on the balcony shifted towards the glass door. But she shoots the wake of the ship making a turn to port. As I recall, they made a turn to port to trim the ship after the list. The lady picked up her camcorder after BOTH maneuvers.

My favorite part is when Lucy goes "flying" out the trailer into the rain and mud......Ricky comes to the door all sleepy and says "What's the matter honey....can't you sleep":D :D

I love it when she's in the back trying to cook dinner.

The turn was to port (towards New York :) ), which caused the list to starboard.

I can't open the video even on the second posted link. Is anyone else unable to open it? Can't even hear the sound.

No, I cannot load it either. You need a certain type Mime - which I do not have - perhaps that is the problem with your attempt also.

If you go all the way to the bottom of the page, and try to watch one of the videos, the Mime instructions will appear - or at least it did for me. But,:) I do not care to download it.
