What are your MUST HAVE pictures?

We're heading off on our first cruise in just 22 days and I'd like to start a list of pictures that are a must have. Here's our specifics.....

 

We're on the Norwegian Dawn and going to

I saw you have this posted on the NCL board but didn't you also have it on this one?

 

Just a suggestion... If you are using a digital, make sure you have enough memory cards and take an extra battery. Just take pictures of anything and everything. When you get home you can decide which ones to print. One thing I wish I had taken more pictures of the artwork.

Yep, I posted it on both in the memorabilia and norwegian forums. Only because I figured people who scrapbook on this forum would know where I was coming from about getting a bunch of pics and then again on the Norwegian board, for the people who have been on that particular ship and islands.

I have seen some of the photos with this done and it looks great and will work great for scrapbooking. I cannot wait to try some if the awesome suggestions out...

Pampaul, All I can say is take tons of pictures. You won't regret it. The Dawn is a beautiful ship and you will have a great time.

I always try to get a picture of us standing on the pier at one of the ports near the bow of the ship with the length of the ship looming in the background.

I took pictures of every port we were in and the surrounding area. I also made sure to get a picture of the sign that states where you were. It makes for a great index for your pictures you take that day. You wont have to try and figure out where you were when a certain picture was snapped. I snapped pictures of just about everything especially anything cultural or different. Since I work in the health care field, the self lavage (a car wash) sign in St. Maarten was a must take picture. Of course lavage there and lavage in healthcare field have two totally different meanings and you certainly would not do it yourself medically, unless you are a masochisit. I also took a picture in Key West because the Happy Hour was at some ridiculous time like 7 a.m. I thought that was hillarious.

The Atlantis Hotel is Nassau (well, technically I think it's on Paradise Island, but it's right there) is an amazing site - I love the "bridge" that connects the 2 towers of rooms!

Like it has been said before, photograph everything!

 

It is nic to be able to tell the story of the cruise so make sure you get pictures of the sailaway. Get pictures of your cabin and a must is a picture of yourself with a glass of Champagne.

Some of the people who make your cruise enjoyable -- such as your cabin steward, your waiter (but you probably won’t have your own waiter if you’re on NCL doing freestyle), your tour guides.

 

This may sound silly, but the cabin door and hallway outside the cabin -- jogs the memory later about where you stayed.

 

Purchases.

 

The food, especially if it’s attractively served.

 

Overall shots of the ports as you’re arriving or leaving.

 

The ship’s funnel.

 

At Kings Wharf -- the clock tower.

 

Inside and outside of restaurants where you eat while on shore.

 

The lobby/atrium/whatever it’s called on NCL (I usually have to buy a postcard or ship’s photo to get a good shot of this).

 

The ship’s stern and wake.

 

Everything you see, and everywhere you go.

A few years ago we were sailing the Caribbean with the kids, and I am always taking pictures, posing the family, and mentally laying out my scrapbook page in my head even before I take the picture. Well, we happen to be sailing during a full moon cyle, and I got lots of great shots of that, but I took so many pictures of the sun setting that when we were looking at them after the cruise, it was like....Sky, Sky, More Sky, Another Sky....and so on and so on!

 

We had a good laugh over this, but it looks great in my scrapbook!

You might quite like to get a pic beside one of the ships life rings? If you see a couple about to take a pic offer to take it for them and usually they will return the favour no prob! l tend to go overboard in taking pics on my cruises.

Or your ships photographer might have a portrait night, If so get a proper pic that night, might be expensive, but it will keep the memories alive!!

Just a few ideas!!

I always get a picture of our room number, and when I get to each port there is usually a sign that says something like welcome to St. Thomas. When I arrange my cruise scrapbooks I try to keep them in order of the days as they happened. When I start a new day for a new port, I use the picture I took as part of the page title for that port and the pictures from that port start after that. Also save the daily activity list from your ship, it will tell you the date you were there and the port and you can used that for an intro page to that port too. I also being along a 3 ring binder with a few page protectors in it. Each day I take all my receipts, and things I have collected from that day and put them in a page protector. This keeps things organized and ready to scrap when you get home as well as keeps it from getting messed up in the suitcase. Have a great trip.

Lots of good suggestions above. I try to take pictures of anything that shows the ship's name, including the life rings, the funnel, any signs around the ship, etc. For NCL in particular, make sure you get pictures of the hull artwork and the ships name. The hull artwork would make great borders around the picture of the ship. Your room number is another "must", so you can remember which cabin you stayed in on which trip.

 

One fun idea I read is to take a photo of your luggage -- either in the airport, or your living room before your leave, or when you put it out the night before. That makes a fun photo. I'm always surprised when I look back to see just how much stuff we haul with us!

 

I like to take a photo of at least one of the menus, so I can remember what kind of meals were served, along with a picture of what we ordered.

 

I like to take pictures of the ship docked in each port. If possible, get someone else to take the picture with you and your traveling partners in the photo. If you take excursions, take pictures of the guides, after making sure that they don't object. Any place you go to that has a building or beach name -- useful for titles on pages, along with just jogging your memory as to exactly where the picture was taken.

I love the pictures I have seen of people crouched down beside the life rings - they are very cute! Thanks for reminding me about this! On DCL, the backdrops for the formal photos were left out very late in the evening, way after the photographer left, so DH and I just asked another cruiser to take a picture of us in front of it... Just another idea! :)

we try to get as many pics as possible...when you get to Nassau there are some great pictures you can take at Atlantis...its a beatiful hotel with gorgeous beach areas...we like to buy the pics from each of the ports we get off at...my wife has these all in a scrapbook...nice to remember where you've been

We love the funny pictures for scrapbooking a last page we title "This and That".

These are pictures that are not the best for a photo contest - but turn out to be a page that we all smile at when we get to the end of the album! :D

My favorites were on the balcony where the wind was really going and my hair and my daughters long hair is flying all around! :eek: And we took one laughing and one with a serious look - they are both so funny! :D On our first Cruise we also struck some funny poses with our life jackets on. We were coming back to the ship and looked up to see my DH waving from our balcony - took some pictures and it was really neat to see where our room was from the pier.

I love the "This and That" idea! The lasy page of our honeymoon scrapbook is just a mix of random photos that didn't have aplace anywhere else, but it would have been so much cuter with that title!

 

I have really been thinking about this, and here is my list of "must-haves" for our Alaska cruise this June (family group of 9):

• Everyone in their life vests (muster drill)

• By a life preserver
  
• In front of a glacier
  
• Holding champagne glasses for sailaway
  
• Cabin-Groups in their cabins

• Signs/names of restaurants/shops/clubs on the ship
  
• The ship at each port

What am I missing?

 

Of course, there will also be tons of photos around the ship, ports, scenery, and excursions! I am planning to do a 2-page scrapbook layout for every day, every port, and every excursion. Since some of us are doing different excursions, if everyone takes enough pictures, this could be a huge book! Also, maybe a whole layout for Sailaway and the muster drill. I'm going to have a big task when I get home, but it will be fun to re-live everything!

I'm a major ship geek and i obsess in taking as many photos of the ship as possible.

 

First two cruises I didn't take any since I didn't have a digicam at the time. The next cruise, I had a very basic digicam and I took many photos that trip. Then on my last cruise, I finally brought my proper digicam and was able to take many more photos. This time round, I'll be sailing on the QE2 in december [ can hardly wait ], and the digicam is being very weird so I'll get a new one since I'll be needing it for school, and I will be taking as many photos as humanly possible.

 

So .. people who have sailed on the QE2, what are must take photos onboard?

I didn't do it on my last cruise but it has become a habit of sorts to shoot a photo of my toes in flip flops propped up on a banister with the ocean behind it - kind of like toes in the sand but my version! Quirky but funny thing is now I actually change my toenail polish color for each cruise for something different! haha Have a great time! debbie

A tip I got from a fellow cruiser, is to take a number of smaller memory cards instead of one big one or a couple big ones. The reason being, Should something happen to your camera, lost or stollen, etc, it you have a number of smaller cards, and the full one, kept secure in your cabin, you are less likely to loose all of your photos. My friend had all their pictures on one of the larger cards, and their camera was stolen off of the conveyor as they embarked after a shore tour. It was near the last of their cruise and they lost all of their pictures as well as their camera. I usually carry, 128 and 256 cards. The price is coming down enough now that you can carry several of them. I have a little case for the full ones and one for the empty s.

Great tips from everyone! Im looking forward to taking more pictures. My problem is I take too many, then I cant narrow it down enough. For instance, i took 650 pictures on my last cruise. Got it down to about 400. Well, you think, thats not bad, but hey...try scrapbooking 400 pictures! I have 2 HUGE scrapbooks for one cruise! Love the memories, but I just cant decide!

 

Some other ideas:

 

1. If I buy something from an island man/woman, such as something they made by hand, I ask to have my picture taken with them while holding my new purchase!

2. I like to take a picture of the ship in port from the island somewhere.

3. I got $20 for the casino to play at the slots and I was left with only $.03 so I had my picture taken (sad face) with my receipt the balance!

4. Take each couple/group's picture outside their stateroom door.

5. Take my picture with tour guides, especially those that made it really special!

 

There are so many things, thats just what I can think of right now!

 

I also write myself a daily journal of what happened so when i get home, I remember everything and its easier to do my scrapbook. Its amazing the things you forget!
