midship or aft?

The Londoners

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'd been under the impression that the best situation for a cabin is midship - however, from reading various postings on these boards it appears that aft cabins are most desirable - we're on Millennium Sept 23rd 2007, Venice - Barcelona (by the way, is ANYONE else joining us - no responses at all on roll call thread), and have so far reserved a midship inside cabin - unfortunately can't afford outside - should we switch to aft - especially bearing in mind past reports of sewage smells?

any advice would be greatly appreciated and will avoid me driving our TA round the bend with constant doubts! :)

thanks so much! Lesley and Phil x

If you are on a Millie ship. Millinnium, Summit, Constilation, Infinity.

The cabins to get are the read facing aft cabins.

They have oversized verandas.

Great place if you have friends on board with you to use as your own private party place before dinner.

If you have problems with motion then stick to the midship cabins.

Hi - thanks for that - never having cruised before I'm not sure if motion sickness will be a problem but have to err on the side of caution I guess midship it will be!

with thanks and very best wishes

Lesley:)

Chances are you will not have trouble with motion sickness unless the water is very rough. If you really are worried get the patch but it sounds like your mind is made up and yes, there is less motion mid ship. NMNIta

Hi, thanks for the advice - had already emailed my ta who moved us to 9139(also bearing in mind posts regarding the sewage smell), which is between midship and aft - one reviewer found this area of the ship (Sky deck) rather noisy at times - couldn't contact them to find out anyfurther info. - do you have any thoughts/knowledge of this please?

with thanks and very best wishes

Thanks - more worried for my husband than me, havne't cruised but have never felt sea sick even on rough channel ferries - TA moved us to cabin on Sky Deck between midship and aft, so hopefully all will be well and the Med won't be rough!

With very best wishes, Lesley

Just returned from Celebrity Infinity and had not only our first balcony, but a very back aft cabin - will never go back to being in the "bowels" of the ship again!!! It was wonderful. We have been mid and forward before, but never aft.

If motion sickness is not a problem (take a mid) then I would certainly recommend an aft. We had room 8172 and the balcony was huge - and the one beside us was even bigger but it is not noted in the books. Yes, we entertained a few people before & after dinner and had a great time doing so!

Guess my only thought on the mid-ship inside cabin is stay out and about as much as possible if you are concerned about motion sickness.

The one thing I discovered on our stay in an inside cabin was that any motion was magnified (in my mind) because I had no reference point for the movement. As soon as I was outside where I could see the horizon and "know" that the ship really wasn't about to tip over any uneasiness instantly disappeared.

While I love the big verandas on the aft staterooms, just being able to look outside is even more important to me.

As with any cabin, note what is above and below you. If you are above/below heavilly used public areas such as dining room, lido pool/buffet or casino you might be affected by noise. Inside cabins are great for sleeping late since they are as dark as the center of the earth. Midships does reduce motion some but the higher you are the more motion you will feel anyway.

Thanks so much to all - certainly food for thought, just hoping for a beautifully calm med!

Would love a verandah but our choice was to take an inside on Millennium with an itinerary we will love, or compromise on quality and get the verandah - we decided to stick with the inside on Millennium but are saving our pennies just in case we can afford to upgrade to verandah!

Lesley,

Your cabin, 9139 inside, is under the beginning of the buffet lines. There could be some noise from there when meals are being served, but more likely, when cleanup is being done. I don't think it will be too bothersome though. Hope for the best.

On Summit, I had 9127 Balcony, which is a little forward from yours and under the carpeted dining area. It was very quiet.

Have a great cruise.

Thanks John - I'm probably worrying for nothing -Celebrity suggested we wait until after our upcoming cruise on Century then make our decision.

With very best wishes,

Lesley

We have been on both Century (2x) and Millie. On the Century you will probably hear a noise and feel vibration at the rear of the ship as she leaves port. While the aft area is generally noisier, it is not nearly as pronounced on the Millie.

However, since you are going inside, I would stick with mid ship. There is no real benefit to an inside at the rear of the ship, IMHO.

We have always booked insides which allows us to cruise more often:) But, for the upcoming Alaska we finally splurged for an aft balcony.

Thank you Charlie - we will definitely stick to midship and our long suffering TA has now rebooked (again) on Millennium for cabin 7127! Also midship on Century (1057) - have a wonderful time in alaska - we're really hoping to do an alaskan cruise in the future.

With very best wishes
