Correct. This is if the person is only planning to bid for resort level hotels though. Because they didn't indicate that in their post I was replying under the assumption that they would be possibly bidding in other categories (i.e. 3.5 star to perhaps land the Sheraton).

Even with a 3.5* the bidder still has the same free rebids zones that I indicated earlier. The zones that indicated do not have 3.5* hotels either, so she would have those zones to re-bid with right away.

So ZONE 6 is not really an area such as Old San Juan but the 6th zone you bid on? I am glad I am learning now so I have months to figure out what the heck I am doing.

No, you'd start your initial bid with San Juan (I assume this is the area you'd like to stay in). The other zones that mentioned are FREE REBID ZONES ONLY. This means: if your first bid for San Juan is not accepted , you can add these zones and rebid right away without the risk of a hotel in those zones accepting your bid. Why? They don't offer your star level, so your re-bids will get kicked back to your initial zone which is San Juan. This is why I stated you need to click on each zone seperately BEFORE bidding. Any zone with a star level lower than the actual zone you're bidding for, should be written down to be used as a free re-bid. Keep in mind the example I gave you is for bidding 3.5* or higher ONLY and IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO STAY IN THE SAN JUAN AREA. You should definitely research the websites I indicated as they detail how to bid more in depth for beginners.

Hope this helps!

:confused:I just checked Better Bidding and they list the Sheraton Old San Juan as a 3*.

If I made a reservation from their site, the lowest king room is $209 - limited view and lower floor.

Ok....I was mistaken, try 3 stars then:D

I know its one of the few choices in the San Juan Zone though.

On Hotwire, the Sheraton in OSJ will appear as a 3 * with the following ammenities: Casino, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Tennis Nearby.

One trick is to do a search for packages from JFK to Puerto Rico from 10/3-10/5, when you search on packages they actually show you the hotel names with the amenities, that way you can make sure you have the absolute latest info, then go back to just searching for a hotel and see if a 3* with those amenities appears in the San Juan zone.

what do i need to put in to assure that i am bidding ONLY on the rio mar. there are several resorts in the rio grande area, but have always stayed at the rio mar and would only want to go there again. i am nervous about pulling the lever and entering my credit card before i am absolutely sure that this is what i will be getting.

thanks,

There is absolutely no way to do this bidding with priceline. You could get any resort within the rio grande zone if you bid. The two resorts that participate with priceline in that particular zone is the Wyndham Rio Mar (previously Westin Rio Mar) and the El Conquistador Resort. If these two resorts are not to your liking, then do not bid with priceline. However, IMO the El Conquistador is definately notch above the Wyndham, but both are very nice resorts!

We were in the same position as you, we didn't want the El Conquistador, since it is a journey to get to their beach out on the private island. We used SkyAuction and got the Wyndham for $110 a night. There is an auction right now that ends on the 30th, just read the checkin date requirements and factor in the $49 or so a night fee and the $20 service charge and see how the auction goes. We were super impressed with Skyauction, they have great customer service and even allowed us to make changes later on after the auction.

Hello,

Is it true that I may not be able to get two beds when bidding with priceline? We are planning on spending two night in San Juan prior to our cruise. We were hoping to get two rooms but one of the rooms would have my 2 boys in it. They are 18 & 20 and do not want to share the same bed. Would I be able to request two beds seeing as the are siblings? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Gretta

You can always call and put a request in for your bedding type but there is no guarantees. Most hotels, however, do try to accommadate the guest so you shouldn't have a problem. I've done this several times without any problems whatsoever. Just be sure to call right away and request it.

As noted above, call the hotel and request it once you have won the bid. There are no guarantees, but the earlier you arrive, the more likely you are to get one. So if you are arriving early, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you for your help lknight and toonjie!

If I win a bid I will try calling the hotel and requesting two beds. We aren't traveling until April so I don't have flights yet but as soon as I do we will try bidding and hope for one of the resorts for about $100.00 per night. I see that someone else on this thread got that rate for the same time as we are looking for. What a great rate! I hope we get it, too!

Thanks again,

Gretta

We are two families of four (each have two teen sons), and are doing 2 nights pre cruise, then one night post cruise in San Juan in Feb/Mar 2010.

I was thinking originally Sheraton Old San Juan precruise, but have been really impressed with the intercontinental.......

I am now thinking intercontinental precruise then Sheraton post cruise....as we could just walk off the boat to the hotel.

How do I bid on priceline/hotwire? Any tips? Should I bid for both families at the same time to ensure we are together?

Any tips would be appreciated! I have read tons, but I am still a bit hesitant to try myself....

Thanks!

Please go to www.biddingfortravel.com and/or www.betterbidding.com. These sites have full instructions on NYOP (name your own price) priceline bidding and hotwire hotels. And yes, to ensure that both families get the same hotels I would bid/book all rooms at the same time. If you go back a page or so I listed a bidding strategy on bidding for a Resort in San Juan. However, I think you should know that there is no way to target one resort/hotel when using priceline bidding. Any hotel/resort in that zone and star level can accept your bid and you can be upgraded.

With that said, Hotwire might be a better option if you specifically want the Sheraton on your post trip, since you could target that hotel based on the amenities. Betterbidding should list the amenities for the Sheraton so when you go to hotwire you'll know which hotel to pick. Pre-cruise hotel, priceline might be a better option but know that Hilton Caribe, El San Juan, and the Marriott are "resorts" in the San Juan zone with the Intercontinental as well, so there is no gurantee that you'll get the Intercontinental. Otherwise, consider hotwire for your pre-cruise hotel as well. The Intercontinental seems to be the "hot" win right now with most bidders though.

Hope this helps!

There are posts about the specific ammenities which come up for Sheraton (3 stars on Hotwire) and in the Old San Juan Sheraton thread in this San Juan forum.

The ammenities and area are the keys to knowing which hotel you are bidding on with Hotwire. Note, Sheraton is not a resort and no beach around it.

Good luck !

Exactly and very good point. This is why I recommend her to use hotwire for the Sheraton since she could get upgraded bidding for a 3* with priceline to a Resort. Using hotwire would be best IMO to get the Sheraton.
