Papenburg, 31 October 2006

 

The 93,500-gt cruise liner “Norwegian Pearl” will leave MEYER WERFT to take to the North Sea on the night of 4 to 5 November 2006. The conveyance will be supported by operation of the Ems barrier in Gandersum.

The following approximate schedule is subject to weather and tidal conditions and may hence change at short notice!

Saturday, 4 November 2006:

From 8.00 p.m. on Ship ready to sail (in Papenburg harbour)

Saturday/Sunday, 4/5 November 2006:

10.00 p.m.-3.00 a.m.: Passing the lock in Papenburg

Approx. 2.5 hrs later : Passing the “Friesenbrücke” in Weener

Approx. 4.5 hrs later: Passing the “Jann-Berghaus-Brücke” in Leer

Approx. 8.5 hrs later: Ship at Ems barrier in Gandersum

Approx. 11.45 a.m.: Passing the Ems barrier

Approx. 6.00 p.m.: Arrival in Eemshaven

The departure of the ship from Papenburg harbour as well as the ship passing the Papenburg lock will be broadcast live on the Internet.

10.00 p.m.-3.00 a.m.: Passing the lock in Papenburg

Approx. 2.5 hrs later : Passing the “Friesenbrücke” in Weener

Approx. 4.5 hrs later: Passing the “Jann-Berghaus-Brücke” in Leer

Approx. 8.5 hrs later: Ship at Ems barrier in Gandersum

Approx. 11.45 a.m.: Passing the Ems barrier

Approx. 6.00 p.m.: Arrival in Eemshaven

I bet those times are German Times. Not sure I wish to stay up all Friday night watching the Pearl float down the Ems River. Although to be in Germany and see it live would be fun. These 93,000 gross tons ships really do make the Ems look small.

 

The Pearl will soon float in seawater for the first time. It will not be long before it's accomodiating its first passengers.

There's nothing like the smell of fresh paint....Here's a few links for the Norwegian Star's passage, first from the bank, next from the bridge, just in case you can't wait until Friday night, or don't wish to stay up all night.
