Nice to Monte Carlo transfer

Our cruise is this Sat. from Monte Carlo on the Navigator. We arrive in Nice and want to know the best way to transfer to the port in Monte Carlo. We are doing our own, so not included with cruise.

We are thinking just to take a taxi (because of all the luggage). Has anyone done this, and can you tell us the price?

Thanks!

I had this same transfer last October. There are several options - RSSC transfer or taxi. It's not cheap, even though it's only about 19 miles. Both run around $100 (US). Taxi will be slightly cheaper unless they have raised their rates. I didn't do a lot of research on this, so there might be a another alternative but I couldn't find one & neither could my land TA that I used to booked the hotel in Monte Carlo. If you use RSSC air and/or book your hotel through them, your transfer will be included - unless those rules have changed. Hopefully someone else on the board has more up-to date information.

Here's what I posted earlier about tours on a Monte Carlo to Dover trip. Please note we arrived in Nice the day before the cruise so it was very effective for us to mix a Nice-Monte Carlo transfer with some sight seeing. Azur-Chauffeur let us craft our own tour so we could pick what we wanted. Other companies do similar things (Revelations and others). We were well pleased with Azur -Chauffeur and feel comfortable recommending them.

TOURS: We took the same Bordeaux Tour as Freddie and can echo all of his praise of the company. Our guide was Maria and she tailored our tour (in accordance with our wishes) a bit from Freddie's group but it was still fantastic. In Nice we had AZUR CHAUFFEUR pick us up the morning of our sailing at our Nice hotel with all our baggage and take us on a tour of St. Paul du Vence, Eze, the palace at Monte Carlo, the top of Castle Rock at Nice last minute request), the Rothschild Estate on Cape Ferrat and then drop us at the ship. With tip 380 euros for a 6 hour tour. Brought a big Mercedes Van for just the three of us to hold all our luggage. In Normandy we used Normandy Sightseeing Tours and they had a very nice van for the 7 of us (Woody and Vivian; and Mary Ellen and Bruce joined us) on a very nice tour of Normandy beaches. Here's a link to Frommer's that will give you some basic info on transportation to/in Monaco. Useful read.

There's a scheduled express bus service between Nice Airport and Monte Carlo. If it's not too much of a hassle, perhaps you could take that to Monte Carlo and then a taxi to the ship.

Last November, we went from the Voyager in Monte Carlo to Nice by train. First Class tickets on the regional TER train from Monte Carlo to Nice-St. Augustin (station closest to Nice Airport) cost less than 6 euros per person one-way. We walked from the ship to the train station in MC, and from the station in N-SA to the shuttle bus stop to Nice Airport. This, however, was possible because we were in our 40s, had studied maps of both areas, and had only three pieces of luggage between us. The train ride was very scenic, comfortable and relatively fast. If you are considering this option, I suggest taking taxis from airport to train station and from MC station to the ship. You can buy the train tickets from machines at the station. The following link has TER train options for Sept 30. If the display somehow turns to French, just click on the Union Jack (British flag) icon to get back to English.

IMPORTANT: Nice Ville is the larger train station near the city center. Nice-St. Augustin is a smaller station, but it is the closest one to Nice Airport. Depending on your level of comfort, you might prefer to depart from Nice Ville, which may have more English-speaking folk around to help.

Train tickets can be purchased online for collection from a machine or ticket window.

Purchase and pay for your ticket on-line now and pick it up at an automatic ticket machine.

-- You reserve and pay on-line.

-- You retrieve your ticket from an automatic ticket machine at the last moment, just before your departure.

Note : 3 out of 4 train stations have automatic ticket machines. If this is not the case, please pick up your ticket at the ticket counter.

I would recommend against jockeying to the train station by taxi and then taking the train to Monte Carlo just to take another taxi to your hotel. If it is not the same cost as a taxi it will be pretty darn close...and you will have more hassle and probably more time waiting for the train and the second taxi.

Tours can be a good idea, but as you will be so close anyway, you may just want to check in, get settled and then venture out. If that is the case, grab a taxi. It is easy. Nothing in the south of France is cheap, but it should be less than US$100, as memory serves me.

Can I suggest that you take the helicopter from Nice airport to the heliport in Monaco? Its a fantastic way to travel, no problems with luggage - if there is too much for your flight, they just put it on the next one. cost is comparable with taxi and soooo much more fun! you can arrange it very easily (just like taking a bus, they have a regular schedule) when you have passed through customs, just follow the signs (its near the back of the airport). they provide free minibus transfer to whereever you want in Monaco. I used to travel to Monaco alot for business and always travelled this way.

have fun

We took a taxi from Nice Airport to Monte Carlo (we stayed at the Marriott in Monte Carlo which is close to the pier) when we went on the Navigator in late May. The cost was 95 Euros with tip and it took 40 minutes. The taxi drive indicated that the trip can exceed 1 1/4 hours if you get there in the rush hour.

I'd buy the rssc transfer unless you want to do a tour along the way. That way you go right to the ship and don't have to hassle with dragging your bags around. You should have time to go into Monaco after you get settled on the ship. RSSC runs a free shuttle to the square right at the casino.

We took a taxi from the Nice airport to Monaco last November. The cost was €80. The cabs were plentiful at the Nice airport and everything went very smoothly. The same cannot be said for cabs in Monaco. We waited almost an hour at our hotel in Monaco for one to take us to the ship a mile away in the harbor. I understand the French cabs cannot pick up customers within Monaco.
