newmexicoNita Posted November 20, 2006 #51 Share Posted November 20, 2006
I agree wholeheartedly with you that timeshare should not be bought in the heat of the moment, on a holiday, at a presentation, etc. However, your view of Timeshare seems only to be placeing a value on the cost of Timeshares and not factoring in the quality of the holiday. Timeshares , especially Gold crown, etc. are usually very upmarket, well located, etc.[ much the same as cruises. ] . Timeshare is not an investment in Property, but an investment in Holiday Experience.
you have put the entire view of timeshares into perfect words; it is not an investment but a quality vacation experience. misty57 Posted November 20, 2006 #52 Share Posted November 20, 2006 We happened to purchase our timeshare while we were at port during a cruise vacation. One of the "perks" that inticed us was the idea of "trading" our week for a cruise in the future. Well, we didn't realize that it wouldn't be an even trade. As someone else has noted, the base cost of the cruise before the discount is sometimes higher when going through these companies. Our timeshare ( a beautiful development) is in the southern Carribean. We have yet to return but have used the a banked week to trade for a resort week in Vegas for our daughter's honeymoon. If someone wanted to sell their timeshare, what is the best way to do this? SailBadtheSinner Posted November 22, 2006 #53 Share Posted November 22, 2006 To sell a timeshare, I would first go to the Timeshare Users Group (TUG). Here is the site: http://www.tug2.net/ I would then read the article there How to Sell Your Timeshare - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44 or you could learn how to better use your timeshare by becoming an active member and asking questions there to those who are more experienced. If you are determined to sell, one option would be a no reserve auction on eBay, starting price at $1.00. Or put it on CraigsList. You could list it in the For Sale section of TUG. But however you do it, be prepared for scammers. The article mentioned above has a section that is devoted to scams. Also, what you want to avoid are TS resellers who say they will sell it for X dollars but require an upfront fee of $500 - $1,000. Kiss your money goodbye. You'll learn more by reading the article, recommended by - SBtS
