Beware of RCCL Credit Card Reward Points

Over 6 weeks ago, I called up MBNA to transfer my points for my upcoming RCCL cruise on the Freedom, I was told they would mail the vouchers within 10 days. Having read another post on this board that said it could take up to 6 weeks, I didnt worry. Well yesterday I started to worry and found out the representative I spoke with never transferred my points and that they would send them out again in another 10 days. I am 30 days out til my cruise and am beginning to think I will not have them in time. Has anyone else had good or bad experiences with this reward system?

Had no problems. Called (about 6 weeks out) and redeemed 55,000 points. Got the certificates in less than a week, mailed them the same day and they were posted about 3 days later.. $500 credit to card and $50 OBC. Sorry you got hosed. Maybe they can get them to you in time. 30 days should be enough if they get on the stick. Good luck.

No...I have always recieved mine.

One thing to note is that you can use the reward point even without the actual certificates...all you need is the number on each cert. and when you are on the cruise give the numbers at the pursers desk and they can apply it to your accout that way. I was told by RCCL and the RCCL Visa that this is not a problem. Call RCCL Visa and ask for the cert. numbers and then call RCCL and tell them your delima. Hope this helps.:)

when i tried to get the cert # to give the rccl rep., they did not know how to access that info ( persons i delt with) - i finally got someone who could give me the info and passed it on to the rccl person- they said i needed the certs to get the credit- so , you have to get the right knowledgeable person to get things done that way-

we ordered our certs and got them in 10 days- call again tomorrow to see if they have been mailed, call again the next business day, until you find they have been mailed- someone dropped the ball with your first request-

i sent our certs in registered, insured, overnight mail.............make copies front and back for your records- then, in a couple of days call to see if rci got them- and were they applied- keep on them-- was told you could get them applied up to 5 days prior to sailing- good luck!

We got our in a timely fashion, took about 5 days, and our TA Fed Exed them to RCCL. that's when the SNAFU occured. RCCL apparently lost/misplaced them and now that we are supposed to be making final payment they were nowhere to be found. Our TA spent over an hour on the phone, mostly on hold over 2 days but we believe the situation has finally been straightened out. We will know for sure when we make final payment on Monday.

I would suggest starting early. We cashed in 125,000 points four months prior to our cruise. No problems and we got the room we wanted. I never trust a person on the phone to do what they say they will do. Always get their extension number and name, so if there are any problems you can always go back to them personnaly. Also I have found if you start up a conversation with them, get personal...they tend to give your situation a little more attention.

Good luck and cruise on....

A better title of your thread would have been beware of credit card customer service, which is good advice in general.

As soon as I got mine, I faxed them in, than mail them. That gieves you an edge. I have found they needs to be a lot more customer training. I called this past weekend. THe first person I talked to could hardly answer any of my questions. I am grateful for these boards.

and then there is Celebrity. We had $750 OBC on Summit last November, 4 days for account to show on TV. No OBC! I went with all my copies of stockholder $250, and $500 from VISA. It took them a week to tell me that the credits were moved to another cruise by Miami. WHAT? Someone is playing with my money? When we got home I phoned Celebrity & they were to repost my points onto my Celebrity VISA account. 4 months later still no points. SO I tell them to mail me a check for $750 but they can't do that. MBNA reposted the points, which I cashed out & closed the account.

RCCL have been fabulous with them. I call MBNA to redeem points, the certs show in under a week, I mark what I want on each, fill in booking # ship name & date of sailing & mail to Wichita, KS. Then makes copies of what I sent to take with me to the cruise just in case. 2 weeks later TA calls to tell me the amount of my OBC including stockholder credit. PERFECT! 2nd day on ship money is a negative on my account. Husband loves to get it at the casino cage to use for tips, etc. Then last night we get the rest to take home. Account is a -0- when we leave.

Funny that past years we always have to hit the bank before a cruise. But no more, the casino cage for cash we may need & double points on the VISA. Great combination!

You are correct, I should have titled my Post Beware of MBNA Customer Service. I am new to posting and was just venting. It wasnt RCCL that I was angry with it was the CSR for MBNA that messed up. Actually if it wasnt for this board,I probably would have just kept waiting for the vouchers. I had read somewhere here about 2 months ago someone else experienced a similar issue.

But can by the 3rd day. The credit card company (MBNA) does not actually issue the certs - RCI does. Once they are logged by RCI, MBNA can give you the numbers. My TA was able to get the credits using the cert #'s and they just sent them in when I got them.

For future reference, you can also have them Fed Ex'ed to you for a $16.00 charge. Not much of a price to pay if you need them immediately. When you order them though, be sure to have the MBNA person request that they be sent together (if ordering multiple rewards) or you will get charged the $16.00 for each cert...not much of a deal if you are getting a $50 reward.

I've been very please with the service I've gotten from both MBNA and RCI when requesting/using the certs. Hope things work out better for you this time.

When I ordered our 25000 point certificate, a couple of weeks ago, the rep who took my order was able to provide me with the certificate number, immediately. It seems that the luck of the draw applies here as to whether you get someone on the phone who knows what they are doing, or someone who wants to blow you off and get you off the line.
