FL Donna Posted October 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2006 My husband and I are having this debate over cabin selection. It will be our 7 th cruise Oct. 2207. We have booked mostly balcony cabins. On the shorter cruises we did inside cabins because we wanted the dark room to sleep. For some reason he wants a Jr Suite for the cruise. I say for the price difference I can take another cruise. So please help me out.Is it worth the money for the bigger cabin, or better to take another cruise? I really value your opinions. Stormlover Posted October 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2006 We were lucky to be upgraded from a balcony to a JS our last Cruise-8-27-06 on Mariner. It was a nice room although I can not see myself paying that much more for one. It was no charge so that was great. I would say that depending how much time you spend in your room would have to play into weather it is worth the extra $. We arent in our room enough to even think about paying the price for a JS. I have to agree with you take 2 cruises verces paying extra for the JS, I dont see were they are worth what they are asking for them, therefore I would never book one, a Balcony works great for us. Hope this helps.
Gypsea Posted October 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2006 An oceanview is all I've ever felt I've needed. More is nice but truly not worth the extra $400 or more. Remember the day when oceanview was the best available?

What is an "opion"? 2. 2207 is a LONG time to wait for a cruise 3. For a 3-night cruise, for my money, with two people who presumably love each other and are happy to spend time together, cheaper is better. For a week long cruise, I would opt for a balcony cabin. It's up to you two to decide if JS is worth however much more that costs than a D cabin. What ship, what time of year? :)
Host Kewlguy Posted October 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2006 I'd be happy in a category D1 stateroom with balcony. I would only upgrade to a junior suite if it wasn't too much more expensive. Save your pennies for the future cruises.
Buccaneergirl Posted October 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2006 I've only ever upgraded twice from a balcony to a JS. Once was on the Med cruise and the price dif. was $250 pp and the second time was on Grandeur and the price dif was $150 pp. They were both worth it for me but anything more expensive than that and I would say - no, not worth it. How much time do you really spend in your room? On Grandeur, I was in a corner aft and the balcony was huge!!!!!! I loved it and I got 2 cruise credits! FL Donna Posted October 1, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted October 1, 2006 It seems like you are all thinking like I was. The price difference is 500.00 per person. I would rather take that 1000.00 and go on another cruise. We do not spend that much time in the cabin. Now I just need to have DH read this and convince him. Wish me luck. cameraguy Posted October 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2006 On a short cruise we book lower priced cabins, that way we can book 2 cruises. On longer cruises we book a balcony. We have been in JS & OS's with our upgrades at no extra charge but we would never book them. The more we save the more we can book cruises. When you are at sea, even a balcony is dark at night, but if you afternoon nap, an inside cabin is better.

I guess it really depends on your financial situation. Some people could have the junior suite and have plenty of money to take another cruise. Others would not. If you can afford it and this is what he prefers, then why not endulge? If this means no more vacations throughout the year, then maybe you should do some research and print out information on other cruises you could take later on & show him where that extra $500 would go. FL Donna Posted October 1, 2006 Author #12 Share Posted October 1, 2006 I was typing in a dark room last night. It is a cruise on Mariner October 14, 2007.Thank-you Marion-mom for pointing out my typo. mistake. Update: I read him all the responses and (LOL) he thinks you are all on his side. He was laughing very hard. While we can afford to cruise, money is defiantly an issue. I can defiantly think of other things I can do with $1000.00. We have had some recent health issues. So we just started taking the time to get away and before we started cruising a couple of years ago we did not vacation for over 20 years. Our children are grown, so now we are determined to spend our money before they do LOL. Help me convince him please.
ncdazz Posted October 1, 2006 #13 Share Posted October 1, 2006 How can your DH think we are on his side LOL We say take TWO cruises!!!! Here is a thought...instead of thinking in terms of next cruise, think of how you could spend the $1000 on this cruise. I don't know what your habits are, but casino and drinks can eat up into $1000 quickly. How about a very nice piece of jewelry for his wonderful wife!! Maybe this will convince him to save the money :) If he says you can get the upgrade AND have $1000 spending money then give him a BIG KISS ;) !!! Is there a health issue where he believes you need the extra room? This is a tough decision, i'm sure, but keep spending your children's inheritance and have a blast!! Merion_Mom Posted October 1, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Wait, wait, wait! I definitely have a MUCH better idea, Donna. He is okay with spending another $1000? And you say, "take another cruise with it"? DO A BACK TO BACK in a cheaper cabin! woohoo! :D
megr1125 Posted October 1, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 1, 2006 I have had both a balcony and JS. I say JS but $500 is A LOT. Usually for us it is only $100. Of course for Grandeur next Oct, a GS was like 200 bucks more than the JS, and STILL less than some other cruises...so we are gonna spoil ourselves..that is unless i decide to just do a 7 night from FLA. $500 PP is a little steep i think. AFT_LOVER Posted October 1, 2006 #16 Share Posted October 1, 2006 At $1000+ a JS is just a big room, not a suite, just the extra cruise credit with no Concierge Lounge with free specialty coffee & free booze from 5-9PM. I am happy with my D1 CORNER AFT with huge, seems like a wrap around, balcony, so we see both ways. On Celebrity we'd upgrade ourselves for $100 PP for Concierge Class, so same with JS on RCCL for us but they are way overpriced for a tub! I vote for save the $1000 for that new washer/dryer you'll need down the road. It seems like you are all thinking like I was. The price difference is 500.00 per person. I would rather take that 1000.00 and go on another cruise. We do not spend that much time in the cabin. Now I just need to have DH read this and convince him. Wish me luck. FL Donna Posted October 1, 2006 Author #18 Share Posted October 1, 2006 On the last cruise for my birthday, my present was a a 1000.00 piece of Jewelry for my wife. I two baseball caps and a tee-shirt. So I figure I deserve a bigger room. John
FL Donna Posted October 1, 2006 Author #19 Share Posted October 1, 2006 We tried to find him a gold braclet to match the gold chain we bought from the last cruise. We shopped till we dropped. However we were not able to find what he wanted. We did find something close, but it was too small for his wrist. We could not believe it. I also got him a birthday cake and chocolate covered strawberries, and an IOU for the jewelry when we find it. He totally surprised me with a beautiful amolite slider for my omega. We had like an hour to get back to the ship. We both liked the slider. However we both left our charge cards back on the ship. We both thought the other had them. We were exhausted when we got back to the ship. He said he was going to get something to eat and I went to rest. That night at dinner which was formal night I turned my head and when I turned it back there was a box he slid in front of me. When I opened it I cried like a baby. I realized what he did for me. He was also sent to opposite ends of the ship twice and had to really rush. Keeping in mind he has had a heart attack and open heart surgery and a stroke. So I will never forget what he did for me. piercetc4 Posted October 1, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 1, 2006 i vote that you go in a balcony cabin- 500 pp is too much too pay- we are on that cruise also- got an e2 - the js right now is 1299- hopefully a c and a coupon will come out for it for 125.....keeping fingers crossed on that one- we did a js last cruise- was not worth a 1000 more in my opinion- i would also rather go on another cruise with that money..... we got a nice deal on our js is only reason we went with that- not really that much bigger and never used the tub...... the aft balcony was fabulous though- good luck- hope you get the next cruise either way!! BearySweet2Cruise Posted October 2, 2006 #25 Share Posted October 2, 2006 500.00 pp is a lot of money for a JS. I would take a d1 and still have a balcony.. now for the folks who say they do not spend time in the cabin anyways, I am an execption to that rule.. I spend hours on my balcony and rather be there than out about the ship.. my time to relax and not care abotu anyone else around me... I am a cabin dweller for sure.. I love it that way. When I sail upcoming solo I plan to not get off the ship and spend all the tiem I can on my balcony and in the casino. (and of course the DR for meals, other than that back to my balcony!):)
