FSO Cruiser Posted May 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2004 I have been on a number of Carribean cruises and received port maps and information in my room the night before arriving at each port. Does this happen on European cruises?
ilovhywd Posted May 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Yes, at least on the cruise lines I have used. Some cruise lines, such as Radisson, give you a very comprehensive booklet before you cruise, at the time you receive your documents! In addition, there is usually someone from the town at a desk near the ship's tour desk who hands out maps, brochures, and other "Chamber of COmmerce" information. However, if you plan to sightsee independently, you may want to do some research online in order to plan your day BEFORE actually arriving! That way, you won't waste time figuring out what you want to do. I see you are somewhat new to these Message Boards. You will find a wealth of good information here. FSO Cruiser Posted May 31, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Thanks for the info. I am in the process of doing my research. I was hoping that the maps were given out in order to simplify the process.
jhannah Posted May 31, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Be sure to check out the travel books by Rick Steves. He's the guy who does the travel shows for PBS. His books are great, with hand-drawn maps and lots of supporting information that's really useful. 'Vegas Jim
BaumD Posted May 31, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Some of the European cities are very complicated and the maps provided by the cruiselines can be very sketchy. Find a good map before you go, or get one once you get there.
roothy123 Posted May 31, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2004 I found the ones my cruise line gave us (a little grudgingly, however, since they wanted you to take the ship's tours!) were better than what you find in travel guides. I think most of them came from the travel bureau in each city. If you can get stuff from the chamber of commerce, travel bureau, or whatever it's called in each city, that would probably be the best.
