4A Garantee vs IS

What the heck is the difference between these two besides the 79.00 pp charge for the IS? (IS stands for inside garantee- which costs 79pp more then the 4A garantee)

 

 

Which one will get upgraded first?

 

I did call Carnival twice and both times the people didnt know what I was talking about.

I would think the IS would be LESS, as it could put you into a 1A (upper/lower bunk :( )... other than that, I don't know!

Now, I'm a little confused. I booked an IS guarantee for the Inspiration in Nov and was told by my TA that the IS would guarantee at least a 4A and possibly upwards. I don't want to end up with a 1A since it's my husband and I and also I paid more for the IS guarantee than just booking a 1A, but less than the 4A. That's why I went with the IS guarantee than just a 4A guarantee.

 

Can anyone confirm this? Otherwise, I'm changing my booking to at least a 4A.

The pricing of an IS higher than a 4A is unusual, but sometimes promotional deals apply only to assigned categories and not the broad IS/OV/BL guarantees. If you can really book a 4A guarantee cheaper than an IS, go for it as they really are the same thing.

 

 

IS DOES NOT include 1A -- only 4A+. You can see this for sure by getting pricing on the booking section of Carnival's website.

An inside guarantee STARTS with 4A

 

The 1A is specifically sold for 2 "singles" who are aware that it is an upper/lower bunk. It is not used in assigning Inside guarantees.

 

This was confirmed to me by our TA.

We have friends that have booked an IS and it was and still is less expensive than a 4A guarantee. Very unusual.

Thanks all for confirming what IS means. Just got a little concerned when someone posted that an IS means you could end up in a 1A.

If it were me (and others can tell you this) I would not opt for anything less than an assigned cabin... I like to hand pick where I am on a ship... even if it means $100+ more.... (Who knows, I might make it up in the casino..lol)

I too like picking my cabins. The cruise I am questioning is for my son. Seems there is a big sale happening for Oct 25th sailing on the Facination and the 4a gauarantee is 79 cheaper then the IS. They are worried since it was the 2 of them they would get a 1A. It was cheaper to get the 4A anyways.

 

But i was also wondering if one would get upgraded first over the other>

IS is a 4A or better cabin. Not certain which would be upgraded first, but we booked (2) IS cabins for our May Conquest cruise (one cabin had 2 occupants the second 4). When we booked the IS guarantee was CONSIDERABLY cheaper than the 4A. Upon arriving at the port we found both cabins had been upgraded to Outside cabins, so we lucked out with the IS category.

IS stands for Inside: This includes 4A,B,C,etc.

OV stands for Oceanview: This includes 5, 6,7

BL stands for Balcony: This includes 8 etc.

 

An IS means you are guaranteed a inside cabin within category 4...whether it be A,B,C, etc.

OV means you are guaranteed an oceanview within category 5,6,7, etc.etc. etc.

 

If you book a 4A you WILL have a 4A. If you book an IS you are guaranteed an inside within the 4's but you could be moved to 5,6,7, 8,.....

Basically - if you book a IS guarentee, you will NOT get a 1A cabin with the bunk beds. I went over and over this same subject with my TA and both they and Carnival assured me that an IS is 4 or above. What herb said is exactly right!

We booked IS on elation in February, was upgraded to Upper deck ocean veiw room. U never know, first time we didn't book an exact room, took a chance and it paid off.

I booked an IS but I still don't know where I'm at yet...I'm sailing on Sat. and I called for maybe some idea so I could put them on my tags and such...They told me I had to have my TA call them...I said that was dumb...so she did and they still didn't tell her anything...I have 4 days to go...Anyone know how to find your room now? Thanks;)

It has been my experience, as a TA and through personal experience, that the 4A guarantees will be upgraded prior to the IS bookings. On every sailing I have ever looked at, the IS category was cheaper than the 4A guarantee. If the reverse is true for you, I would definitely book the 4A guarantee.

Let me clarify that IS for you. It is a CRUISE ONLY inside guarantee rate, category 4A or above. It is, 99% of the time, lower than booking a 4A guarantee. If you add Carnival's air you cannot book the IS, OV or BL rates. Once the IS rates are gone you would have to book a 4A guarantee and that does happen often especially in the summer or on holiday sailings.

Thanks for your help- I still cant figure out the difference between a IS and a 4A gauarnatee. I booked him in a 4a gauarantee. A place on a ship beats a day a work anyday.

The only difference is the price. If, when you booked it, they weren't offering the IS rate you would have to book it as a 4A guarantee. Did you book air through CCL? If you did then you can't book the IS rate either.
