whogo Posted December 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2006 What can you tell me about the Volendam practice tennis courts? Is there a fee for use? Does it get used? Do you need your own racket and balls? Please and thank you for your expertise.
bepsf Posted December 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2006 Gone. The deck space has been built-over with the additions to Club HAL. (this applies to all S and R-Class ships) :(
mushroom Posted December 19, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2006 Typically the "tennis courts" on ships are paddle tennis than actual tennis. Usually, they also double as basketball courts. Serious tennis players might use them to practice a short court game, but not much more. Sorry.
whogo Posted December 19, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted December 19, 2006 Thanks for the replies. I meant to ask about a tennis court, rather than tennis courts. I was not expecting much, but my teenage daughter was hoping to knock a ball around a bit. There is still a court shown on the Volendam deck plan, with the qualifier "Please Note: - All information is subject to change. x lindsay x Posted December 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2006 Yes, the practice tennis court is still on the Volendam. The net is usually set up high for volleyball but it can be lowered. The court didn't seem to be getting to much use on our cruise a few weeks ago. That might have something to do with the location as you have to pass through the court to get from one end of the ship to the other on the sports deck. whogo Posted December 20, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted December 20, 2006 Thanks, Lindsay. I am surprised to see the Volendam has a court. If the Zuiderdam has one, it is well hidden.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted December 20, 2006 #8 Share Posted December 20, 2006 Here's a pic of the court on Zaandam, sister to Volendam. No fee; use as you please! Have fun!

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 20, 2006 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2006 On our Oct 24th and Nov 3rd cruises there was so much noise from the basketball court, that they posted an announcement in the daily program and limited the hours for everything up on the sports to only about 3 hours each afternoon. whogo Posted December 20, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted December 20, 2006 It looks like the courts are over the Lido Restaurant. I thought there would be enough bustle there to drown out the sound of tennis and basketballs. I am glad the courts are not over my cabin.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 20, 2006 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2006 The noise can be heard in the cabins below the Lido area.
