mattR Posted January 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2007 How is the Pirate Ship tour in PV?
gottago2mexico Posted January 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2007 We did both the day and night last year, and were actually very surprised at how good it was. To start off, they serve you a full hot-cooked breakfast in the galley (not the fruit and rolls breakfast most tours offer), which was a pleasant surprise. The pirates serve you throughout the day quite diligently, and keep you full of liquor (or other beverages). The pirate ship is fully decorated (make sure to check out the bathrooms), and during the voyage to Majahuitas beach, they put on a pirate show, with audience participation and a good time. Makes the sailing go by quick. At Majahuitas, the guide takes the group snorkeling, while those who don't want to snorkel engage in kayaking, swimming, beach volleyball, and drinking beer. The pirates form a special kids club, where the kids engage on a treasure hunt (which they loved), while the adults get a little peace and quiet, or play volleyball. After the beach, there is a full lunch of chicken and ribs served in the galley, and more pirate festivities and drinking on the way back. All through the tour, the pirates go out of their way to make it fun for the kids, which we thought was cool, even though we don't have kids ourselves. Great family tour, and fun for us too. The Night tour is similar, except no kids and dinner instead of lunch or breakfast. Also, of course, no beach time, but fireworks instead. Hope this helps - have fun! mattR Posted January 10, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Thanks Johann & Sandra for all the great info!!! Do you have to pay extra for snorkel gear? How long do you spend at the beach?
aussiedisneyfan Posted January 10, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2007 That sounds like a really cool excursion. I had seen it in the brochure but wasn't sure what it would be like.
gottago2mexico Posted January 10, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Thanks Johann & Sandra for all the great info!!! Do you have to pay extra for snorkel gear? How long do you spend at the beach? Nope - snorkeling gear is included in the price of the tour. As I recall, we were on the beach for about an hour and a half, which was plenty. The snorkelers had less time, of course, since they were snorkeling. We skipped the snorkeling because we had just snorkeled at Majahuitas the day before. psbtrvlr Posted January 11, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2007 Is the beach they take you to nice? Is it really busy? Are there lots of vendors? We went on the pirate boat in January of 2005. The beach was not crowded at all. There were very few vendors.
gottago2mexico Posted January 11, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 11, 2007 Is the beach they take you to nice? Is it really busy? Are there lots of vendors? Hi Matt, They take you to Majahuitas beach, which is only accessible by boat. The beach is small and quiet, and half the beach is only for pirate ship passengers while the other half is private for guests of the small Majahuitas hotel. When we were there, there were no vendors at all. Quite a contrast to Las Animas, Quimixto or Yelapa beaches, which are big and well developed. Here are some photos we took on our trip to give you a better idea: These folks are all pirate ship passengers (and the crew of course). Use of the kayaks and boogie boards is free. The chairs and canopies are free to use. The banana boat was also free, I think, but I could be wrong about that. Way off in the distance is the hotel area. Majahuitas Beach from the front view as we approach it. They continue to serve you free beer on the beach. Beach volleyball - the pirates join in the game to keep it fun. We played a lot while we were there. They really go out of their way for the kids too, from treasure hunts to onboard activities. Lots of families on the day cruise. Hope this helps give you a bit of a picture. If you have any other questions, just let me know. Have a great time!

BleednBlu Posted January 12, 2007 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2007 I agree, this was a fun excursion. We did the night trip, so no snorkeling. It was a party boat and they were fun.
