RC Gift Cards

Recommended Posts

Someone at work wants to sell unused “RC gift cards”. This is what their e-mail said:

“For their wedding gifts some of their friends, knowing their plans to go on that cruise, gave them RC gift cards totaling $150. When they got on the boat they went to use the gift cards only to find out that they could not use the cards because the fine print on the back of cards (which, of course, they did not read) required that they call an 800 phone number and "register" the card with RC at least 4-days prior to the departure date of the cruise.”

I have never heard of a gift card that needs to be registered before using. We will be going on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the future and would be happy to help them out, but would like to know if this is legit. Anyone know about RC Gift Cards and how they work?

Thanks,

Ron

We've received some gift certificates and have "redeemed" them online. Is it possible they meant redeem instead of "register?" I'd call the following number for verification. It's nice of you to try to help them out.

** IMPORTANT: To use toward the payment of a cruise vacation, reservation(s) must be made at least 14 business days prior to the sail date and/or the gift certificate must be redeemed before the final payment date (at least 10 business days prior to the sail date). To use as an onboard credit, the gift certificate must be redeemed 10 business days prior to the sail date.

Gift certificates must be redeemed prior to your cruise vacation. Gift certificates can not be redeemed onboard.

How to Redeem Your Gift Certificates

You will need to reserve your cruise vacation before redeeming your gift certificates. You can choose one of three options:

  • Call a Royal Caribbean Certified Vacation Planner

Thanks for the info. I wonder how many people who get these things don't read the small print. Cash or a check is always easier as a gift, but big business likes rebates and gift certificates because a good number of them never get used.
