Etap Amsterdam

Has anyone ever stayed here? Opinions?

Never stayed there, but if it is the "airport" location, you are kind of isolated outside the town. You will need a shuttle to go to/from the airport and take a train into/from Amsterdam.

Check tripadvisor:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g227903-d301016-Reviews-Etap_Hotel_Amsterdam_Airport-Badhoevedorp_Noord_Holland.html

If you want to see Amsterdam, better stay closer to town. You can check hotels/prices etc. also on Tripadvisor. If you need more help or info let me know.

Thanks, Ine, (you are invaluable on these boards)

That's the one we are looking at. We almost always book ship/airport transfers through the cruiseline, so we thought perhaps an airport hotel might be better for us - that way we don't have to take luggage on the train. Although a hotel inside the city with FREE airport transfers would also be ideal.

I am a frequent visitor to tripadvisor, but info on Etap is sparse, and it's difficult to find city hotels with free airport transfers. Any recommendations? We want cheap, cheap with private bath in a safe location.

Well, Etap is cheap, again I have never slept there. But on Tripadvisor the reports are not that great.

You can also check this link giving various other airporthotels of which most of an airportshuttle. (check it before reservations)

http://www.schiphol.nl/_plan_book/portlet/Hotels_Schiphol.jsp?PORTLET%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134198673797054&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302574008&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395729235&VIRTUAL_TEMPLATE%3C%3Evt_id=10134198673796689&bmUID=1170353496344

Hotels like Ibis, Mercure, van der Valk, Bastion Hoofddorp, are decent, good priced hotels with shuttles, if you want to stay around the airport.

The airport itself has a nice shopping area with a few restaurants.

To visit Amsterdam you can take a train from the airport to Central Station, after you have dropped you luggage in the hotel and still willing to visit the city.

Should you prefer to stay in town, you can take the (not free) shuttle from the airport that goes to various hotels.

http://www.schipholhotelshuttle.nl/site/home.asp

The next morning you will have to take a cab or tram to the cruiseterminal.

Hope this helps.

ETAP is a low-budget hotel of the French Accor-Group.

It's a queen-size bed with a third bed for child which can be also used as baggage rack. There more or less no furniture inside except a chair. Everything like the table and washbasin (in the bedroom) is part of the whole "shoebox". The bathroom is only one piece of plastic with all parts you need: shower and toilet - and a wiper is always part of the equipement to dry the bathroom after use... The only "air-condition" is open or close the window. But as they are mostly located close in industrial estates or close to highways: it could be very noisy to "turn on" the non-existing "air-condition". Do not forget: mostly they only provide continental breakfast only. In Industrial estate you do not have any restaurants which are open in night times or public transport.

You check-in yourself with your credit card and get a slip with the door lock combination.

There is one sister chain which is worse: Formule 1: no private bathroom only washbasin...

Have a look:

http://www.etaphotel.com/gb/discovering-etap-hotel/hotel-room.shtml

But normally they are so cheap: 59 EUR incl. free shuttle in Amsterdam.

I would spend 20 EUR more and stay in another hotel...

ETAP or Formule 1 never again. Every stay under a bridge is nicer...

Personal suggestion: Go to Dorint for 65,00 EUR. It's fully personal manned and you get more than 59,00 EUR in an ETAP-hotel!!! There is also a free shuttle.

Not neccessarily, I've stayed in a Formule 1 hotel in Paris (near Stade de France), it was cheap and very good (two beds, bathroom, very clean, decent breakfast). I would go there again and also recommend it to other people. So it seems they are not all alike and there may be differences from hotel to hotel.

Good Morning,

according to their website

http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/gb/decouvrez/hotels/chambre.shtml

there should be NO private bathroom in the rooms of Formule 1-Hotels.

There has been a rebranding some times ago. Our local hotel started as Formule 1 but due to the private bathroom was later rebranded to ETAP.

Later a Formule 1 was build next building to ETAP as Formule 1 and offer for 10 EUR less the rooms. Same room sizes but no private bathroom.

But if here is the situation that DORINT (also ACCOR-brand) is offering for 6 EUR (= 8 USD) a personal-manned hotel with a better standard than ETAP I would never go to ETAP if the difference is only so small.

In Paris the hotel rates are generally much more higher - so the difference between ETAP/Formule 1 to a mid-class-hotel is much more higher!
